There's a legacy that we honor
When we bring the light to the dark

______ Starflight wasn't the first, but all his life he has been in the Dreaming Clan, and he has seen as much as a few of the older dragons. Hatched alongside Panthera, the two were inseparable. They weren't related by blood, but always considered the other their sibling. While Panthera grew to be bold and brave, Starflight was more quiet and reclusive, preferring to stay in the shadows of others rather than craft his own. He found his talent as a herbalist during the sessions where he was alone, with no-one but his frog friends he found along the way to keep him company.

______ Starflight enjoyed becoming the Clan's herbalist, though it was hard at in the beginning. As he would be the first ever healer, he had no experience from other dragons to learn from. It was hard gaining Rosefire's permission to leave and seek the lessons needed, but eventually the Fae caved, purely because Icefire supported the Nocturne's decision, and Rosefire always agreed with what the Tundra said. So off he went, to learn how to be a better healer for the Clan he loved, unaware that he would never see Panthera again, or that the Spiral he had formed a close bond with was gravid with their eggs, and that he would have to care for his sole surviving daughter when he returned.

______ The frogs were unusually silent as Starflight stepped back into the domain of his Clan. How he missed seeing all the lights and welcoming streets! It was a joy to be back in familiar territory, though the places he'd visited had been just as nice. He couldn't wait to tell Panthera about his travels! She'd always wanted to explore, and would be excited to learn about the places he'd been too!
______ Except no dragon greeted him at the entrance. In fact, there weren't any dragons around that he could see. Worry knotted in Starflight's stomach - where was everyone? He'd been expecting Panthera to come bouncing down the streets, a delighted grin on her face, and she would hug him tightly and expect him to tell her everything, including the types of dragons he'd met outside the Clan. But no Nocturne came running down the street, shrieking his name in delight. No Spiral came floundering through the air, relief on her face to see him again. Had something happened to them?
______ Voices greeted him as he stepped into the main street, low and mournful, their faces not meeting his gaze. It was Portal, the Coatl, who stepped forward to deliver the news to Starflight away from the group of mourning dragons.
______ "There was an incident." Was all she needed to say, and he knew then that she was gone. They were both gone. His heart cracked, and a million thoughts filled his head, cursing himself for leaving when he should've stayed.
______But another surprise was waiting for him, for Portal led him towards their nesting area. There, staying away from the tumbling hatchings was a newly hatched Nocturne, a saddened look on her expression. My daughter. Starflight realized, noting how the patterns on body resembled those of her mother's, the Spiral he had fallen in love with before he had left.
______Starflight vowed he would not abandon his daughter, the way his mind hissed that he had abandoned Panthera and Basyana to die. He would teach her all he knew, if she wished to go down the same path as him. He would continue to practice at home, learning how to be a better healer.
______He wouldn't let another dragon die if it could be prevented. Not on his watch.
