One way to escape the Sanctum is through old catacombs that run below the city. It’s a good way to disappear but navigating the old tunnels that turn into literal caves the farther from the city you wander, is a lot harder. Thankfully Cawthorne calls the underground his home and is there to guide any lost souls.

He doesn’t really care about the war but takes note how others treat him. If the lost dragon is rude to Cawthorne, he might show them to the nearest exit (even if they wanted to find a specific exit) or might take them on a longer route to reach the surface. Those who are kind to him may expect the same from him.

Witch hunters have thought about trapping him and bringing the stone dragon to the emperor but their plans stayed as only ideas when Cawthorne told an especially loudmouthed hunter that the one could wander the catacombs forever and find their own end before the exit. The words sounded more like a promise than an empty threat so after that they decided to let Cawthorne wander the tunnels.
