Role: Necroservus
Necromantic Symbol(s): Bones
General Job: Entourage overseer and organizer for Mayu, occasionally an assistant in Airi's place.
Arcane and Plague have always been neighbors. With many necromancers choosing to spread the word of their own beyond the borders of the wasteland, it was only natural that their word would reach the Arcanist's domain sooner rather than later. Apollo, as a young dragon, heard these words. He heard the feats that the necromancers accomplished. But he didn't think much of it until a vision had come to him one night.
It was hazy. A sickly green fog covered the land around him. An eerie glow came from somewhere ahead, but as he approached it the scent of decay filled his nostrils. But something, somewhere, urged him forward. A strong but comforting voice whispered into the imperial's ears: "Come, child. Come be by my side. You will have the strength to succeed, and to thrive." The glow grew brighter and brighter as Apollo drew closer and closer. And soon... he came to from his vision. It was a call for him to go to Rotrock Rim. Something in his gut told him so.
And so he made the journey. Long and difficult as it may have been, it was worth it. A necromancer was in the area, and was easily able to tell him that vision was a call to undertake the necromantic trials. Apparently he had promise if he'd received a vision like that. After a few days of preparation, of considering everything, the imperial went forward with it. If he had been given a message from a deity, somehow, to be here? Then there had to be a reason.
Infection came fast for him, despite his rather average choice of perch. It was as if he was already chosen to be touched with disease before even arriving. Perhaps, then, the test for him rested with the remaining two trials. And indeed, it did. Fighting off the plague took almost everything he had in him.
Apollo struggled down to the last day before finally coming out on top. However, he was unable to cure as easily as he could infect. Given the title of necroservus, he was left to recover from the ordeal and figure out what to do with himself.
He didn't immediately choose a necromancer to follow. Instead, Apollo wandered the wateland for a while, searching himself for answers and honing his skills. Once he knew what he wished to do in service of the deity who called him there, then he would pick whether he'd follow another and if so, who. After a few weeks, another vision came to him. One without words, but of dragons meditating among bones.
Brief as it was, it still told him something. Oracles. He was to seek out the oracles and perhaps even shamans for where he would belong. In retrospect, he wondered how he hadn't come to that conclusion sooner.
Apollo eventually came upon the Plague-Watchers in his travels, and the face of a servus following their leader caught his interest. It was Airi - she had been in his last vision. Had he been sent to be with this group, then? He approached the other dragons, and explained himself. He spoke of the visions he received, and how the imperial necroservus was in one of them. It didn't take much to convince Mayu, the necromancer there, that his visions were true. "Mother chose to test you, to see if you were worthy of joining us. Though you do not have the ability to cure, you are still blessed with guiding visions. I welcome you to join us, for perhaps your visions can help us serve Plaguebringer even better than before."
He was quickly accepted into their ranks, and given his own place to stay. Apollo was pleased with this outcome, for it meant everything he went through wasn't for naught. He had a purpose and role, one he would dutifully fulfill.
Apollo is a dragon of simple things. Though his apparel may seem fancy, he avoids going as over-the-top as some necromancers or their servi might. His voice is calm and gentle, much like his touch, and he always takes his time and paces himself with his tasks. His approach to life as well as how organized and tidy he keeps things makes him a perfect fit for keeping the overall entourage in order.
However, he is slow to act on his feelings. While he can keep people and things organized, he has a difficult time deciding when he should actually do the things he feels he should do, rather than thinking about how to do it.
But what not everyone in the entourage is aware of is that Apollo occasionally has visions. They're always short, but they provide some insight in one way or another. It's been theorized by Mayu that this might be the result of his innate Arcane energies interacting with those of Plague, providing him short flashes of insight into the world and what to do next.
Apollo spends his free time writing poetry and stargazing. Quieter members can find comfort around him in these times, as he is content to simply be in the same area as someone as a form of bonding.
