She kept the pearl out of sentiment. It hangs at her hip, now, wrapped safely in silk.

When she first joined the clan, she'd sought a new beginning, having fled the Tangled Wood where her home clan was. She never expected to find refuge in a tiny Water clan on the borders of the Sea itself, yet she found herself watching it grow and expand over the years till they shifted to the Spiral Keep.

The transformation followed soon after.

It had been painful, of course, but the tides of change hardly leave anyone unscathed. Her new form used to feel odd, but in time she got used to it.

Change is inevitable, she believes.

Only fools resist.
