____He has many names. The most difficult, and the most loved, is Fool. Some know her as Amber, and she doesn't know whether that was truer than the other. Both were ways to survive, to become what they might expect to see, conceivable, one of them rather than an oddity beyond their understanding. Strange, always, yes -- but fathomable. Love makes you real, so they were real. Are, always will be. The truest name, however, the one he longs for, and the one that hurts the most, is Beloved. It's hot as fire, it twists a knife in his gut, warms him throughout, freezes him from inside out until he becomes one with the ice, lost to life. Dragged back to it. Frozen. Freezing. Never quite warm again. Ice exists within him. It's the thing he loathes most of all. It's what defines him most. He never could bear being cold. It does seem like the things most important to him end up hurting the most. The things he longs for, when they reach him, seem to do the most damage. So is it with love. To fall in love with Change itself is folly. For the Prophet to grow to love his tool more than the work, the destiny of the world, the right path -- how to bear it. The Catalyst is so very human, in his fire and rash action and desperate, violent love that forces itself to rearrange the world -- and the Prophet finds himself folding, changed by the Changer, love forming itself around him, becoming what the Catalyst sees, a friend, a Fool. Their ends were ever going to be entwined. So difficult to see, beyond their realities, beyond what they should have had, but just as right, and just as real. The cold eases. Stone can warm in the sun. Love is ever hot to the touch.
