Sometimes, when you grow up never really belonging anywhere or to anyone, you can grow to hate staying still. When you find a home after not having one for so long, familiar things can start to feel strange. When you stay somewhere long enough to grow roots, you start feeling like they pull you down so hard there’s nothing left of your freedom, of who you used to be.
If you’re lucky, you can take the people who you’ve grown to love like family, people who grew up just as rootless as you, and leave. Take them, and leave the home you built on hope that grew into a prison. Move on. Over the border, across the water, westward, where the lush wildwoods of Viridan Labyrinth suddenly turn into the rocky desert plains of Dragonhome.
Sometimes, when you’re very lucky indeed, you can find yourself eye to eye with past so ancient it has long since ceased to have anything to do with the living. Something so much bigger than you could ever be, so much older that all your years amount to nothing but a blink of an eye. An ancient connection so unshaken that, before it, all your solitude and pain turns into nothing but dust.
When you grow up never belonging anywhere, you start to long for a past. You start to yearn for a connection, being in touch with something bigger, older, more fundamental than family ties, loss, or a lonely childhood. You can find yourself standing ankle-deep in dirt and dust, feeling at once far away from home and so close to the heart of things that it makes your breath shake with relief as much as excitement.
Sometimes, the roots that were once a comfort grow so strong they begin to choke you, the cool shady forests that were once a refuge grow so verdant you feel lost. Now, suddenly, they are behind you. You stand in the middle of a desert, where nothing lives except everything that has been and will be. You feel the warm desert wind on your cheek, look at your toes buried in dirt, and feel, for the first time in a long time, like you can breathe again.
In the shade of ancient ruins trembling with history, you settle. Desert plants, cacti and succulents in the cracks of time immemorial grow and make home away from home as you find your place in a world so different from what you know that it feels like it’s always been there, inexplicable and eternal. This is where you find who you are, where you belong, all the things no living dragon ever could tell you.
Sometimes you can turn over a new leaf, start a new chapter, surrounded by love and understanding that grows older as you breathe, more certain with every heartbeat. We have been here for a very long time. So long one could never feel alone. So long one could never feel anything but.

I love what you did with your progens! Your other dragons are really impressive too.
I saw Gale through that nocturne share thread, and I love the overall gradient effect from dark to light green that the color/gene/skin combo creates.
WH im glad to hear that! Looking at other peoples' lairs and getting to talk about the cool decisions they make is one of the best parts of FR, there's so much love put into your lair it's hard not to gush.
