And so we travel, off to the lakes of glorious green that our mother had created for us all those years ago. We believe what she has told me, that the pools are safe for us to travel in, off to a different and new realm where peace would meet us and where we could receive a thousand hugs. The pack around me chatters in joy, chanting my name as I take position on the edge of the pool. I speak to them. "Let this be proof of mother's love for us." I say, and I take the dive. |

"The pools are poison." I try to say, my throat withering from the liquids I have attempted to consume. Mother was right, the lakes are not to be trusted, even though we have lived right next to them for centuries. The only sounds that come from me are garbled noises. I cannot speak. Somebody has to warn them, somebody has to say the truth. No other dragon should come near these pools again, no living thing should breathe in those fumes. It's a miracle I managed to survive. |

We believe it was a warning, a way to keep us safe from the dangers beyond the greenness of the lake. The pack stayed by my side as I attempted to recover, but things were going less smooth than planned. They carried me in their flock to the sparcs where inventors awaited my arrival, to help me rebuild my body in a way to keep it alive. The ridgebacks who helped me are my relatives, but they are not my kin, not my blood. They begged me to stay with them, to be the ridgeback I was meant to be. Every time I looked at my reflection, I did not recognize my own face. I stuck with the mirrors that showed my true self. |
