bell-ringer
as its name implies, bells play a large role within the carillon clan. they are hung on every caravan, in every room, on every string of lights and sometimes even carried by the dragons themselves. they all range in size and tone, and there are several larger bells used to mark celebrations and occasions. it was on new year's eve, as the largest, deepest, most solemn bell filled the air with heavy vibrations marking the final moments of 2014 that astarael hatched.

nocturnes are known for their mimicry; they reflect the world around them. perhaps this is why those final seconds and that heavy knelling of the carillon always seem to echo in astarael's presence. they seemed to have shaped her in some way; with scales glistening like a bloody end and wings spreadlike a violent dawn, she is irrevocably tied to finality, closings, and the end of all things, along with new beginnings, births, and fresh starts.
she has grown to become an enigma that unnerves a majority of the rest of the clan. able to steal the voice of any dragon she talks to in a perfect mimicry, she is also talented at vocally reproducing the chimes and rings of several bells around the lair and does so quite often. combined with the strange aura of finality that always accompanies her, most dragons find themselves disturbed in her presence. it is not like talking to another dragon, but more like speaking to a reflection of yourself tied to an inevitability you'd rather forget. nothing can be avoided or hidden from forever.

so few know her personally that most would vouch that there is no individual or soul beneath the mirror persona. rather, she seems birthed of something more supernatural and ethereal. for this reason, many whisper that she is cursed- or that she is a curse upon the clan. to see her perched atop your caravan or to hear her ring the large carillon or the small replica she carries with her is always considered an ominous omen. but for all they fear the endings she brings, there is an unspoken sense of hope and relief in her presence as well; as all things end, we find we can let go of the things that bog us down. astarael reminds them all of fresh opportunities and new life as much as endings and death.

however, the twins have made it known that she has a welcome home in the carillon clan, and there are a few that she spends time with. veil, for instance, seems to know her on an uncanny level, although he is so obscure that he reveals little to anyone else. he and his mate khoshekh, who also communicates quite well with the nocturne on some level, often take her in. meanwhile, the young and unrelentingly curious constance is determined to both befriend her and discover and help her to understand the secrets of her nature.
