I thought that Asuka Cirrus would always hold the prize for being my most exasperating student, but he’s got competition.

In my years teaching on the Zephyr Steppes, I thought I had endured every practical joke in the book. I’ve had glue dumped over my feathers, I’ve been covered in burrs, and one particularly uncomfortable instance where I got covered with sting beetles that crawled through my feathers for two days.

But this little gremlin has gone beyond the pale. Instead of gluing my door shut with resin (which yes, has happened before) she’s convinced the entire class to go on an emotional strike. They say nothing, respond to nothing, and if any one of her peers looks like they’re paying attention, it’s clear that they’ll face social repercussions later. This wouldn’t be a horrible problem if her father wasn’t going to keep me hostage until I’ve crammed literacy down her throat.

To make matters worse, she stole my notebook. This notebook. The one I need to keep track of the many criminals that have crossed my path. I’ve gotten it back obviously, but as soon as I’m done teaching this brat to read, I’m going to relish watching her grow up into a full-sized delinquent with no future in the civilized world.
