Orinth

Personality: kind, soft-spoken, fatherly, gentle giant. A dragon with great natural strength and the care to never use it, willing to use his body as a literal stone wall in defence of his children and clan. He is sociable and enjoys gatherings, but is not one to take charge. Loves birds and his family.

Favourite Types of Games: rpgs, relaxing games, whatever the rest of the table wants to play.

Hates: not much really. Cruel people and when people assume he is the leader or co-leader of the clan because he is male.

Backstory:
When Orinth first opened his eyes to the world after he was given life from stone by the Earthshaker, he wasn’t quite sure what to do. This was my a particularly uncommon problem amongst the new breed, but he felt he struggled with it more than most. Too timid and unsure of what he had to offer to join up with a clan right away, he spent the first few years of his life wandering the forest. This is where he discovered his love of birds. He would often turn into his statue form when he tired and found himself watching the world around him, appreciating the world he had been born into. He enjoyed watching the wildlife that sprung to life around him once he became perfectly still. He was particularly fond of the birds that would land on him and sing the most beautiful songs.

He continued in this quiet life for quite a while. Although he was mostly content, he constantly struggled with the idea that something was missing, that there was something that he was supposed to be doing. He would have kept to that life if it were not for a simple twist of fate.

He had planned to do some birdwatching (really just turning into a statue and waiting for them to land on him), but it started raining. This normally would not bother him, but he had been having poor luck in his search for birds in this area and didn’t feel it was worth it. Therefore, he found a nearby cave, turned I to a statue, and feel asleep.

He awoke to the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Her scales sparkled even in the dim morning light. He form was sleek and powerful as she curled herself protectively around a hatchling that was squirming and squeaking with excitement and joy. Her eyes were wary, but so stunning that he was drawn into them like a vortex.

She was beautiful and he felt everything click into pace.

As if he was made by the Earthshaker himself simply to love her.

At first he didn’t know what to say to this ethereal creature and he stumbled over his words with eyes blown wide, trying to take in every detail. When he did finally manage to get a complete sentence put it was to ask her about the hatchling she cradled, if it was her baby. As they spoke at the same time, asking the same question, he quietly hoped that it would one day be his baby too.

Orinth began living and travelling with Amethyst after that, helping her raise the hatchling, little Finch, who seemed so attached to both of them. He used his knowledge of birds and their care to teach Finch to preen and care for his feathers as well, he hoped, as another dragon of his breed (whatever that was) would. He also threw himself into learning about the games that Amethyst loved, enchanted by her passion and adoration. He desperately wanted to impress her with his skill, but fell in love with the games as he fell in deeper love with her.

They eventually formed the gaming group that would eventually become their clan. There, for the first time that he was aware of, someone assumed that Finch was their biological child and asked about his strange appearance.

Orinth was aghast. Of course, his being in love with Amethyst was obvious, but he felt that there was no way she would ever share that interest. She was perfect, a deity amongst dragons, and he…spent more time in the company of birds than other dragons. Standing next to her he felt plain, painfully so. He was just some guy, while she was extraordinary.

Imagine his surprise when she revealed that she was in love with him too!

After that, his life only improved. They became mates and he felt he could not be happier. Then, Bloodscale came into their lives and, though teaching the hatchling that it was okay to ask for things, okay to fuss, okay to be a hatchling, was difficult, he could not imagine his life without his second son.

After the clan officially formed and moved into the manor, he created a bird sanctuary in the woods around their home.

Now, each day when Orinth opens his eyes to the world the Earthshaker carved him into, he knows exactly what he’s meant to do and where he’s meant to be.

Other Facts:

• Once, before he met Amethyst, he stayed still in his statue for weeks after a bird made a nest on his head and laid her eggs there.
• Very deeply in love with his mate and will gush about her and their children at every opportunity.
• Sometimes forgets that Finch and Bloodscale are not his biological children.
• Does not want to be left in control of the clan while Amethyst is away (and really shouldn’t be).
