Favourite Types of Games: competitive games that are low on random chance and high in strategy. Also enjoys rpgs.

Hates: people who hurt her family, expectations (of society or otherwise), and losing at a game you would have won except for a roll of the dice.

Backstory:
As the clan leader and founder, Amethyst’s story is the story of the Oddball Clan as a whole.

Before the clan, before even the gaming club that would become the clan, Amethyst had held a secret deep within her heart. The Search did not call to her in the same way it called to her clan mates. Her siblings left the nest and never came back, but she always felt different about it, like a voice in her heard whispering “not yet. Not yet. Not yet. You cannot stray too far. Not yet.”

Her mother used to joke that her charge was the ground beneath her feet, so prone was she to staying in one place, to sleeping in the forest caves. Even though the call never came as she was supposed to, she acted as if it did when she was too old for the excuse of being a late bloomer to hold true. But she still couldn’t bring herself to go far.

She wandered on her own for a while, hoping to figure out whatever it was she was waiting for, collecting bits and bobs and playing games with dragons she met. Her dearest friend from this period was Biblion, a scholar who she travelled and played with for a time before he left for grand adventure on the high seas. It was years after he had left, while she was looking for new dragons to game with, when she found it.

A statue.

Crafted as if by a master and left in this quiet little cave all alone. She walked up to it, curious, but stopped. She had nearly stepped on something…or rather…someone

A tiny little baby covered in purple down and looking little more than a day or two old. He had been curled tight around the statues base.

She watched the statue for a time, the statue and the baby beneath it, when the stone moved. She jolted back for a moment, reaching out to grab the child and pull him away, but then the statue, or rather the dragon, spoke.

He was a bit clumsy and silly, starting at her with wide eyes and mumbling nonsense before he introduced himself as Orinth. She asked if they hatching was his at the same time he asked if it was hers. Little did they know, one day their answers would both be “yes.”

The three travelled together for a time, the strange feathered baby being named Finch for his penchant for warbling. Her little voice was different now, screaming “waitwaitwaitwaitwait,” so she did. They made friends amongst the other dragons and developed a regular circle of dragons who played games together. It was around then when the male dragon gave her his name. One of their friends asked if they knew what caused their sons strange appearance, only for her complain to splutter that they weren’t together. She was incredible and he felt like he was just some guy standing next to her, hardly worthy of her attention.

She learned then, too, that he had been trying to impress her with his skills at the games she loved, not knowing he had already earned her affection.

The two became a mated pair, raising the child together. When they ran into Biblion while shopping for rare gaming trinkets at a harbour, he was so shocked to see her with a child, which he identified for them as an Auraboa, that it knocked the adventure right out of him and he settled down somewhere near where their gaming group met.

It was that very night that she learned what she had been waiting for. There was a terrible storm outside and the trio were tucked away into their cave. That was she heard it. A series of crashes ringing out from the forest and somehow reaching her ears despite the wind and rain outside. She was up in a moment, telling her mate to watch Finch before tearing out of the cave after it.

Once she was outside she could tell it was a chase through the underbrush marked by rustling and a distressed squeaking. At the source of the noise she found a child covered in blood and the spiral dragons who chased him away. She leapt between he child and his pursuers. They told her he was cursed, about the strange markings on his sides. She scooped him onto her back and told them to leave before she killed them

They summoned their gaming friends, one had worked as a healer, and they nursed him back to health. It took her a while to learn that some of the red on his scales was meant to be there rather than a result of his wounds, leading to his name of Bloodscale.

It was that next morning, as she listened to her friends speak with hushed voices in the next room and watched the stabilizes baby sleep nestled in her mates fur that she noticed. The voice was quiet.

She had a family to protect.

Their friends simply never left and they dug and built out around the initial cave to create a place for them all.

Other Facts:
  • Hasn’t seen her family since she first left, even though her parents live relatively close by
  • Sometimes forgets Finch and Bloodscale aren’t actually her biological children
  • Is always worried she isn’t doing a good job as clan leader
