The future is a shifting thing, and no one knows that better than NAME. He dreams of mirrors, and a dragon with his face looking back wearing a bitter-winter smile. It sings of tragedies and windfalls, things he’ll lose and things he’ll gain, and none of it ever comes to pass, because even knowing of it changes everything one misplaced breath at a time. Ripples, on the surface of a pool. He tries to find wisdom in this, amidst the frustration: perhaps it’s better to learn early (over and over again) that dwelling on what-ifs will not save you.
