When did Valor's life start falling apart? She didn't remember anymore.
Perhaps it was when she'd had that argument with her parents and left in a rush of anger. Yes, that must have been it. If she hadn't left, she wouldn't have been wandering around lost, and she wouldn't have gotten to the point where she was starving and had to steal things to survive.
Or maybe it was when she'd first nicked that tomato off that vendor. It was probably then. Ever since that first theft had gone completely, wildly successful, she'd gotten into the habit of stealing things to survive. She was light on her fingers and quick on her feet, anyway. But in hindsight, she shouldn't have stolen. She should've at least tried to find a job somewhere, worked hard, and earned her food.
Or it could've been that time when she'd been caught stealing. That was definitely it, wasn't it? By that point, Valor had already been a thief for most of her life, and she was still young. The dragons who'd caught her took pity on her too. Thought her life could still be turned around, as if it hadn't fallen to pieces the moment she'd been born. So they sent her to the Organization.
She had nothing to steal here. And even if she did, there were dozens of eyes on her to catch her for it. And yes, there were dragons here to argue with, but retribution would be swiftly dealt.
Perhaps she'd be able to pick up the pieces of her life, and finally live up to the name her parents had given her after all.
