Phlox was found as an egg by Pergola with her brother, Hellebore, whilst the Pearlcatcher was tending to the gardens around Mossgarde. Whilst it appears they are not biologically nest-mates because of their differing elements, nobody knows where the pair came from. Regardless, they were raised and cared for by Patience, who had not raised any young in some time and relished the opportunity. This proved to be rather interesting as the pair of them quickly developed very contrasting interests. As hatchlings, Phlox often teased Hellebore about the plants he was cultivating, warning him he was not watering them enough or that the leaves were looking a little brown - as a plague dragon she could see them withering, she would say. Hellebore would tease her right back, asking how it felt to be abandoned by her god in the garden of the enemy. It was never malicious, but they were a handful, and as adults, this has never gone away. Despite this, the two clearly respect each other's professions, for Hellebore assisted Phlox in setting up her little 'quarantine zone' and introduced Phlox to her now mate, Lantana, who was very curious in her work and believed a collaboration would be fruitful. Phlox laughed him off at first, saying any collaboration with her would involve killing his precious plants and was very surprised when Lantana casually replied that that was just how survival of the fittest worked. At that moment, Phlox knew he was perfect.
