Biography

A strange Fae who resides deep in the Crystalcrag, Ambitae has always been drawn to decay, yet is equally as strung with her Nature origin. Caught between two differences, a strange god beckoned to her, and though she questioned their intentions, she has found her true calling under the Strange Wings Of Life and Decay.

Ambitae was born in the throe of Nature; this much is true. She was born in it's verdant gardens and terrible jungles, born alongside creatures of beauty and creatures of terrible, terrible might. And it wasn't wholly incorrect; in fact, some could joke that her crackling green hues fit right in with the area around her.
But it was not her.
When rot and decay set in, even so deep in the bounty of Life, she would sit and watch. Watch the maggots and the fungus work their magic, a cycle so innate to the world, yet despised as a polar opposite due to the Plaguebringer's Touch.
Were they truly so different?
Nature didn't feel quite right; Plague hadn't, either, though. Too vile, too horrific. She set herself to wander; she hoped to find her calling in some other place.
Until, of course, she met an odd Necromancer.
The two of them talked for a very long time; of why Kessler had chosen to take the trials, of what they entailed, of their own personal meaning of Plague, contrasting so heavily with what the rest saw in it.
She was enamored; and she had to try it herself, she had to stride up to Mother's Cauldron and take her gift to fill this hole in her soul.
...
It didn't work.
She spent two weeks in deep meditation, hoping that Mother's claw would gift her flesh with her virulent disease, hoping the caustic wind would scrape against her lungs, hoping anything, anything would give her a sign.
Well... something did.
In the midst of her Trials, she could begin to feel another force; something powerful yet weaker than Mother, something unusual, unnatural to Sornieth yet perfectly primed. A new force, a new god, reaching upwards and outwards upon feeling her strain.
She did not wish to accept it.
She feared it was the Shade, trying to tempt her into itself.
But when the trial was over, she had nowhere else to go; her home clan would be able to smell the plague on her, know she betrayed them to seek out Mother's touch. And where could she go in Plague? She had failed to be a Necromancer; she wondered how many clans would accept such a thing, not aided by her Nature origin.
So, against all odds, she followed it's beck and call; striding through the Boneyard to find it's sealine shore, and with a deep breath, diving down to follow it.
...It was a very, VERY stupid decision. She was not a Water dragon. She did not HAVE a Water dragon around her. And yet, when she opened her eyes again, she had been saved; an undertide who had been scouting the area and saw the nearly-drowned dragon, and brought her back to their clan.
And the energy was ever-more powerful.
She thanked him, and immediately began seeking deeper and deeper into the cavern; and what she found there filled the hole she had carried all her life.
Down here, life and death were an ever-intwined dance; mushrooms and decay swelled, alongside alien life. Insects and carrion-eaters alongside fierce, terrible creatures alien to her surface-born mind. Sometimes, the two would intertwine; mushrooms that grew fruit like trees and insects who scavenged as much as they hunted, an intricate dance that blurred the line between growth and decay, and laughed at those who considered it seperate.
It was all she had ever wanted.
It was the hole in her soul.
It was home.

It was not too long after that she was approached by the strange, lanky, two-headed creature themself; Mother Vernax, the strange god that called to her, knowing their domain would serve her better than Nature or Plague ever had. The subterranean god of alien life, in a place where decay and growth were not enemies; one and the same, feeding one another forever and ever.
They reached down gently, and gave her a gift- an alien power that has grown and festered inside of her, warm like an embrace.
She has never felt so alive.
She has never felt so correct.
And finally, finally, she has found a place she can call home, far away from the feuds that tore her apart.

  • Decaystalker is an Assassin Bug that she found out in the Abiding Boneyard, who had been trying to travel but got lost. She took them in, and although they didn't follow her down initially, they DID follow her back through a surface portal facilitated by Rippleshard later and now sticks with her.
  • The tail-bow was a ragged item she also found in the Boneyard, and it felt like a fated thing. She decided it was a gift, and has held onto it.
  • She does occasionally go to Rippleshard for aid and socialization, but doesn't consider herself part of it; she is a child of Vernax now, and the Crystalcrags in their entirety are her home, not just the small corner the clan has carved out for themself.
  • She knows the entirety of the Crystalcrag at this point, and enjoys roaming it's depths.
  • Talks frequently with Shimmermist, an intelligent lifeform native to the Crystalcrag. While she introduces them to the concept of society in an easier way, she learns more about the caverns she now lives in, and the prey and predators she can find.
  • Fascinated by and looks up to Prismarine, a dragon who settled in far earlier than she. She likes asking them about how it's been, and how they feel settled down here; though they don't tend to talk much...

Necrotober Day 20: Truth
As the Fae's clanmates scuttled here and there though the ferns they had been raised in, she sat to the side, watching the others halfheartedly. She had her part to play in the clan, this was true, but she had always felt slightly... off.
She decided to wander off deeper into the forest, past where the others scuttled amongst one another, and stopped when a foul stench rung into the air. Against all better judgement, she pushed forwards to investigate:
A decaying carcass, left behind by some lofty predator, now nothing more than a meal for the worms.
It was disgusting; of course it was disgusting. It was decay and rot inside of the gardens of the Gladekeeper. It was a much more natural one, sure, but she felt she had to be repulsed by the sight.
...But if that was so, why did it feel like the closest she'd gotten?
That strange well that stirred within her, urging her to seek out something else. That told her she was not meant to be here; but if not here, where?
...Maybe this was a sign.
Perhaps, the truth was, she was meant to betray Nature and follow the teachings of Plague.
..She'd try to stomach that thought later. For now, it was quiet, and she could watch the rot work. She tried not to think too hard about the fact that it was comforting to do so.
