He'd heard much about necromancers in his travels after leaving his birth clan. Some of this, of course, came from the ones preaching the greatness of Plaguebringer - but some also came from other travelers that spoke of the things dragons would do near the Wyrmwound. Curious about this entire thing, Grania forged a path towards the center of Plague territory to learn more. The journey would be long and arduous, but it would be worth it to learn about all of it. The tenets of survival and evolution that were espoused by the flight did tempt him, as growing to be someone better than he already was was something of an eternal goal for him.

The day he reached it was an interesting one. The imperial saw many dragons perched all over Rotrock Rim, seemingly waiting for something. Others appeared to be fighting off something while staying there, and yet others seemed to be testing their abilities - all of them sharing particular markings upon their hides. He noticed one watching the entire group of participants, and asked about what he was witnessing. "These are the Necromantic Trials. Many seek Mother's favor, her blessing. They seek to be agents of her will." That was what the individual - a necromancer - told him. Grania's journey to this place had made him rather fond of the Plaguebringer's philosophy, and so he stayed in the area to watch further, to learn more, and to determine if this was perhaps a path he would take.

A few days in, it was decided. This would be his path to be something greater than he once was. As he took to his new perch to meditate, he could hear comments behind him. Some hatchlings, fascinated by the trials, were making wagerless bets over if he'd succeed or not even be touched by infection. Necromancers at the outskirts spoke to each other their thoughts on if he had what it took to be successful, and a handful still were skeptical if someone so fresh to the area should even be trying. But try he did.

The Trial of Infection took a while - 10 days. It was as if Plaguebringer debated upon if he was truly deserving of it. The Trial of Survival took 12 days, as he'd received a powerful strain. It was almost as if it were chosen for his element specifically, as Light magic tended to be strong against Plague magic. But Grania ultimately managed to conquer it. It left him exhausted, but it was done. The third trial, however, was where metaphorical disaster struck. The volunteer to be infected and cured did indeed receive disease from his touch - but every attempt to call it back was a failure. Once, twice, three times, even four. A necromancer stepped in at the fifth, and declared Grania to be a necroservus. The result left him irritated, but he ultimately accepted it. He was preparing to leave Rotrock Rim, but the necromancer from before spoke to him once more.

It was upon closer inspection that he realized this necromancer was a mirror, one with a relatively small frame. Her tone was warm, despite the displeased scowl upon his face. What she had to say to him was interesting. Apparently, this necromancer - Mayu - had decided she would watch the trials for the first time in a long while. But what she hadn't expected was to see an imperial quite like Grania - one with such a strong will and desire to perform well, one from beyond the wasteland who was so ready to serve under Mother. She admired his desire to be more, to be greater than how he was the day before, and offered to take him under her metaphorical wing. He almost refused immediately, but then remembered he had nowhere to truly stay at this time - no clan to call his own. Even with newfound power, he still couldn't survive in the wasteland alone. It was just more practical to join in with a clan and so, bregrudgingly, he accepted.

After some time staying with Mayu and her entourage, however, his icy behavior melted away. He grew to like the company of the girls, and stuck with them. He may not have been as warm to the rest of Woodblight as he was to them, but that was fine. He was content to have a small, tight-knit group to grow stronger with.

Grania contrasts strongly with Mayu - where she is warm and welcoming, he is colder towards newcomers and outsiders. Many describe him as prickly, somewhat standoffish, and snippy. But it's merely just what those who've yet to truly get to know him see as deep beneath it all, Grania is a genuinely caring individual with incredible loyalty to those he's grown attached to. Those that break past that spiny exterior and bond with him will have someone who will fiercely defend them from harm and happily help them with anything they need. Notably, this prickly side tends to disappear for hatchlings as he always shows them a much more approachable side.

Though much of Woodblight isn't close to him in any way, Grania still helps them at the behest of Mayu - in whatever way she sees fit. This typically amounts to helping make sure all newcomers from outside the wasteland are able to withstand the native infections. However, if given the choice as to what he does, Grania can be found encouraging all the newest hatchlings to strive for greatness, to never let themselves become complacent.

Grania gets along best with those in the clan who show good work ethic or a dedication to their jobs. He is also on good terms with Mayu and all of her entourage.
