PENEUS THE MOST WISE

╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮ "...ground cracks...waters churn..." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ Hidden in the depths of the underground world, Peneus and his younger siblings dwelled for centuries. Born during a time of turmoil and war, Peneus and his kin sought refuge below the surface to escape the chaos that ravaged the land above. In his solitude, Peneus learned to harness the ancient language of the Earth and commune with the natural cycles of the primal Earth. As the wars above ground subsided and the Elemental deities faded from society's memories, Peneus and his siblings emerged from their underground sanctuary to establish a new society, one where they would reign supreme. Their power and wisdom brought prosperity to the land, and for a time, peace reigned. Peneus controlled the Earth and its elements, bringing forth great prosperity under his generous disposition. However, this tranquility was shattered by the explosion that brought the world into the Third Age, weakening Peneus and his family once again. It was a catastrophic event that left them vulnerable and once again hiding from familiar enemies. Peneus himself fought valiantly in the Great War, however, he and his family lost the fight and retreated to their historical heartland of the Minor Pillar. Peneus settled in what is rumored to be a grand limestone cave, as the underground was a familiar and comforting refuge for the Earth-touched diety. As years passed, the most loyal worshippers of Peneus and his siblings would build Clan Petrarum atop his underground sanctuary. Many revere him for his ability to control the weather and ensure bountiful crops, attributing their prosperity to his divine influence. As such, his worshippers patiently pray and wait, listening to the whispers of the Earth and waiting for a time when he may rise once more. |
| The Basilica Mystica is a large, enclosed fountain where Peneus's most devout worshippers gather to pray, make offerings, and interpret Earthly signs. It is said to have been built directly on top of Peneus's final resting place. The temple is adorned with marble carvings of ancient stories with a limestone fountain in the center of the room that is said to funnel water directly from the underground cave in which Peneus lies. The Basilica Mystica is one of the holiest places in Clan Petrarum, and as such, is guarded both physically and spiritually by Peneus's most devout worshippers. |
