Upon his arrival to Gestalt, Acelin became fast friends with Belladonna, the two both being immensely distractible mages. The two proclaimed each other their rival, their friendship and casual rivalry serving to keep the both of them on track with their research. While his Obelisk friend focuses more on combat magic, Acelin focuses on quality of life as well as novelty spells.

The two friends often test spells on each other, much to the dismay of those hoping to study in quiet. Working together, the two once aimed to create a spell bound to a scroll which would alter the coloration of the user for a short period of time. The intent was for the spell to be used to enhance camouflage, so the pair decided that Acelin, a bright pink with purple accents, would be the perfect guinea pig for the first trial. Using the scroll, his body rapidly changed to a bright blue with accents of yellow as his once-white spines darkened to green. There weren't many places that these colors would be considered better camouflage than what the Fae had prior, but the true reason the spell was determined to be a failure was that months passed and Acelin showed no signs of returning to his prior color. Lucky for him, he believes that lapis is much more fitting for him than amethyst and bubblegum.
