The biodiversity in the Sea of a Thousand Currents is of particular interest to Wrasse. She has devoted her entire life to protecting it. She roams the shallows, ensuring that no fish, eel, or coral is out of place. Wrasse knows that ocean life operates within a fine balance. Any disruption to this gorgeous harmony could have a devastating impact on the Sea and its inhabitants– including her clan. She guards against overharvesting and the unnatural usurpation of one species over another. Invasive species are relocated back to their places of origin and all creatures are perfectly preserved under her watchful eye. She even takes the time to check each individual rockpool, peering into the tendrils of anemones to ensure they are safe and returning trapped sharks to the deep. She is a true protector of the wilds– and so she shall be, until she becomes one with her beloved ocean. Corals are Wrasse’s favorite. She wishes to make sure that they stay healthy and vibrant. She visits them at night when they’re in full bloom, sacrificing her sleep to witness their glorious performances. Their chromatic tendrils dance in the soft currents, many of them beaming with bioluminescence. If she notices a particular species taking damage or experiencing hardships, she brings a sample home to her little coral farm to prepare the tiny animal for re-propagation. Wrasse fully believes that corals have feelings. She can tell from the way they grow or shrink, emerge or hide away. Some of them are boisterous. Some of them are shy. Some of them enjoy the presence of dragons, and others prefer to be left alone. This seafaring Obelisk feels that in order to truly care for a species, one must seek to fully understand it. She’ll meditate on the perspectives of corals, attempting to think from a coral’s point of view. They have lots of opinions about the cleanliness of the waters, the threats of overfishing, the prevalence of storms, and the ever-looming threat of reef destruction. This last one is a fear that Wrasse shares with them– a desolate fate that she hopes never comes to pass. Corals are the backbone of all life in the Tidelord’s domain. If they suffer, so too will all the vertebrates that depend upon their presence. Wrasse is fully aware of this and makes it her business to spread knowledge about the importance of corals to her clanmates. She teaches reef caretaking classes to dragons of all ages, encourages others to join her for beachside cleanup, and has even forged a connection with Limpet the beachcomber to assist with her endeavors. It certainly helps that she has developed feelings for the meticulous Skydancer. The two of them would make quite the compatible pair, were Limpet to return Wrasse’s affections. For now, he remains oblivious– but who knows what the future may hold? |
