Though dragonkind developed magic-based automatons relatively early in the great Dominance wars, very few were actually built due to lacking any way to utilize ambient magic.

Due to this limitation, early war machines were forced to rely solely on an onboard power source, making them both difficult to refuel and inefficient spellcasters, though many designs forewent offensive magic entirely as the reduced operation time was not deemed a worthwhile tradeoff.

Blood-powered technology was developed near the end of the great Dominance wars to offset these shortcomings. Blood was the new fuel of choice not due to its prevalence on the battlefield, but rather because it was the closest known substance to magic, allowing draconic engineers to tweak their existing systems rather than building new technology from the ground up.

It was only once peace was finally established that dragons returned to building magic-fed machines, eager to leave this symbol of their violence behind.

The V model was developed in the wake of the First Seed and the subsequent fall of the tenuous Plague-Nature treaty.

With war looming once more on the horizon, Lightning companies rushed to take advantage of Nature's lack of internal suppliers. V1 was based off sandsurges and wildclaws both and boasted absorptive plating that allowed for refuelling and repair through contact with blood, offsetting the relative fragility of its draconic form.

However, a new treaty was drafted and put into place before V1 could reach mass production. The only prototype was put into storage as focus quickly turned to developing its successor, but it has since reactivated itself and seemingly gone missing.
