Hyphae hails from the arid wastes of the Abiding Boneyard. She was born full of curiosity, a skydancer hatchling with parents of the Light and Earth Flights plying their trade as a night guard and a candlemaker. They both encouraged her to pursue higher education beyond the limitations of their own clan, and when she was old enough she travelled to The Kheme House of Academy in Kheme Harbor.

She was always fascinated with mushroom and other fungi, and studied that subject in the Plaguelands Natural History Museum under the tutelage of Erebus - a renown scholar specialized in evolution, mutation, and extreme mutagenic environments. Her own research focused on how some mushrooms had mutated to survive in the most inhospitable regions of Sornieth.

As part of her thesis, she went on an exchange program with the Botanical School of Moshkaran, studying the mushrooms of that region of the Ashfall Waste and how they had adapted to the high mineral content and temperatures of the land.

This is when she met Gwenvael, a fellow botanist who taught there, and she ended up returning to Moshkaran after her thesis and became a good friend of him and his Bonebark Botanical Museum and Fungarium, to which she supplied key specimens she brought from Kheme Harbor.

Now she studies Cindershrooms around the hot springs, as well as cave mushrooms endemic to Moshkaran. Though not a member of the Mycelium herself, she is sympathetic to the cause of the secret organisation, and an ally for Gwenvael.

Most hatchlings from Moshkaran are raised by their parents, while others may have grown in one of the city's boarding schools. There are many opportunities to pursue higher education in the fine institutions of the metropolis. Moshkaran has produced talented scholars, particularly in the fields of alchemy and botany, as well as skilled diplomats and courtesans both from the merchant class and the nobility. Other might seek training under any local master of trade until they are of age to travel and seek their fortune abroad.
