Biography

Valerian has dreams. They're not good dreams, and they don't only come to her in sleep. They're true dreams, but not helpful, and nobody believes them.

Then she meets Antler, who believes her, and knows how to make other people believe her too.


Valerian is a herb that has been long used as a sedative. Many use the herb to ease their dreams, but as with any such herb, it is a balancing game. A name is an easy thing to curse - a destiny easy to twist just so that it nudges off its path, a tiny pebble that can have a carriage wheel clattering off its well-worn track. A dragon with a name given to heal can find herself with her whole self turned against her. When one sits just a hair off where one should be, one's name that was once a fate becomes fabrication. A dragon that cannot touch her own true heart soon finds she cannot touch truth at all. Everything slips past, and truth and falsehood turn from things to live by to nothing but a childhood fairytale.
