Biography
Name meaning: Mistmorn
. . . . . . sere (morn, morning) + uwyn (mist)
The sun's identity, when constructed from objective information about its behaviors, conflicts with itself at the most basic level of characterization. One could appreciate its function as a life-giving cosmic force which faithfully returns each morning, and gratefully personify it as a nourishing entity; a maternal energy that feeds organisms insignificant to itself with benevolent and merciful rays. It would be equally valid to be overcome with terror from the gaseous ball of fire that perches dangerously above our planet, and anthropomorphize it as wrath and power; an entity of eventual destruction that should be feared for blazing judgement upon the impure.
Both of these sources of "Light"-- the symbolic and the actual-- speak to the delicate nature of incomprehensibly beautiful phenomena. Their tonal dissonance with one another underscores the complex nature in which facts and feelings overlap. Similarly, such a Flight recognizes and attempts to unpack the beauty of an objective existence complicated by the paradoxes of its own smaller truths.
Light itself (as a Flight) alludes to ancient Hellenic civilizations; it champions wisdom, scholastics and learning, and has a gentle yellow aesthetic. Its tenets are analytical truth and theoretical speculation, debate and discussion; it seeks to connect the present to an ongoing canon of "dragon-ity", whatever Sornieth's idea of that is. It holds this same concern for history as Earth flight, but with a less barren aesthetic; has all the mystery and cultivation of the mind as Arcane, but with a more earthly, reposeful home. It's not enterprising like Lightning or Fire, and it's not militarized like Plague and Ice.
My interpretation of Light Flight sees in it neither perfection nor pretense-- to laud the Flight as the former would be neglectful of me (Greco-Roman, Enlightenment-era influence is increasingly a source of modern opposition because European hegemony is problematic) and the latter statement would lack universal truth.
It could be argued that Light is flashy, pretentious, hierarchical and orthodox, and while I think this notion comes more from drawing comparisons to religious iconography in the human world than what the actual lore states, it is also true to some extent that the flight reflects an epistemological battle over whose words have the right to be held as fact.
After all, Light's denizen species canonically interpret the most important keyword-- "truth"-- very differently (with Imperials favoring universal truths such as the behavior of the world, and Pearlcatchers preferring momentary truths such as moral character or exploration of the self). This in itself suggests a hypocrisy in the idea of truth itself, that there can be no universal agreement as to what it is. The duality of the sun, if you will.
Light brings wonder to the tiniest places in the world. Likewise, its flight seems to explore mortal beings' need to rationalize, connect with, and understand their world, while understanding that the innocent love of and appreciation for experience, can have ramifications on other aspects of that same experience.
