Biography

MATED TO ANGEL
1st gen brother to Mononoke and Rapier
Corsair
Red Lightning, and his brother Rapier, are sky pirates and the clan's chief scavenger team, hatched one day before the winter solstice.
They have taken the Ridgeback philosophy of 'borrowing' to a much more liberal level... or should that be liberating? Liberating you of your property, that is. If it's not nailed down in a box with your name on it, then they reason that you can't be mad someone else came along and took it. Along their typical plundering routes, the phrase 'tempting fate' has evolved to 'tempting Ridgebacks'. Usually with a few ripe adjectives thrown in.
Of course, they share everything between themselves, even their lovely mate, the Spiral dragon Angel. Anyone who wonders what she gets out of it should just check out her jewellery collection... Mote, the lair's matriarch, turns a blind eye to the questionable morality of this duo, providing she doesn't hear any complaints from clans within allied territories.
Micantia however, the lair's ambassador to the Beacon of the Radiant Eye, takes a much sterner view of all this pillaging; she says they are tarnishing the reputation of the whole clan. Red says he doesn't know what her problem is - he's not going to take any of her stupid stuff. Her stuff is for Guardians. (Dragons tend not to be sexist, but they can be as speciesist as all get-out.)
In fact, Red doesn't take part in nearly as many raids as his brother. He mostly fences the items Rapier brings back, and looks after Angel while he's on his extended scavenging trips, so that she doesn't grow bored. When he was younger, Red took out an apprenticeship in the Ashfall Waste, learning how to craft in metals from the artisan dragons there. The Spellbound Golem which does his bidding was his prentice piece and he has since crafted several skilful automata to help around the workshop and the lair.
The Powermith was meant to help around the armoury, but something about the lighting seems to drive it crazy. Red Lightning thinks it's hilarious to see the creature zooming around, divebombing the forges and crashing into walls; Chrysocolla is not nearly so amused and has placed a blanket ban on live Familiars in the workspace.
Nobody knows how - or why - Red got a Thunderstomp onto the ship. The crew have to divide their time towards keeping the huge creature happy so that it doesn't start charging around and cause a shipwreck. Red says it's a special commission, but so far they've put into port twice and the animal has only left to stretch its legs. It seems to be fairly content with its confinement though, chomping happily on all the fresh seaweed they can dredge up.

Before his apprenticeship, he might have mated (nobody can imagine how) with the little Fae, Melusine, who nobody in this lair seemed to want; the poor little Fae was left a single mother to three strapping Ridgebacks! Red and his brother now share mating rights with the little Spiral Angel, though his sights are set far over the horizon, upon the beautiful RisingDawn. She, however, would rather mate with the Spiral Lugh, while Angel's brother Cupid is mated to the Ridgeback Mononoke. Conclusion: Spirals + Ridgebacks = a knotty mess!
