Since his life - and that of his parents and siblings - is slightly more complicated than the average dragon's, Perseus decides to double down. If he already has to go out of his way to make dragons love him, why not go further out of his way? Out of anyone's way, even? He's going to find and bother so many reclusive hermits. Isn't it more of a challenge - and therefore an achievement - to be highly-regarded by dragons who don't like most other people? And okay, even if most of them hate him, he'll get to find out if strong negative emotions count. It's a win-win.
