Biography

The former head of the Robotronics Department, and the creator of the RoButlers that are still used to this day by the Nexus Core. Dr. Herman Gonne brilliant engineer with a dedication to his work that only few can manage, Dr Gonne, while he worked for the Nexus Core, seemed to always be ahead of schedule. Any project that was under his supervision usually ended up being completed before the projected complation time, which left him with a lot of time to work on side projects- one such project being the Kobold Project.
The Kobold Project was a top secret project that not many of even the top members of the Nexus Core knew about- only Phobos, Gonne himself, and a few hand-picked engineers knew about the project. For good reason, too; the Kobold Project was meant to harvest the energy of Selves- or, in other words, souls, and eventually, also be able to instantly and permanently destroy them, without the need to keep them in Purgatory for a prolonged period of time. For what reason was never uncovered by outside sources, nor is it likely that it ever will be.
The entirity of Dr. Gonne and his team disappeared without a trace, after all.
It was sudden, too; the project seemed to be stable, making big strides in progress. They'd harvested a piece of otherwordly machinery, perhaps even a piece of The Machine itself (although they would not know it belonged to The Machine, of course), and had used it in the project, which seemed to accelerate everything. Everything looked promising, with regular updates from Dr. Gonne about the progress- until, all of a sudden, it stopped. There were no more updates, and the people who worked on the project didn't come home, nor did they check out of work- nothing. When agents went to inspect the site, everything was in perfect working order; all the equipment intact and machinery well-maintained, all the Nexus Core property accounted for- but no sight of anyone who'd been working on the project. Nobody was there, and nobody had any clue where any of them went. It was as if they'd simply gone up in smoke, with no evidence to show that they'd gone anywhere at all.
A search was undertaken, but none of them were ever found, and eventually, the Kobold Project was left alone and buried, as if it had never happened. Dr. Gonne and crew were marked A.W.O.L. officially, but everybody who remembers them acknowledges that it's probably more of a M.I.A. situation, possibly K.I.A. Dr. Gonne and crew are forever gone; a mystery never to be solved.
... That is to say, Dr. Gonne and crew do still exist.
So does the thing they created.
The Self Eater. An immortal, robotic monster that completely destroys one's soul while killing them, chasing them to the end of the world once it has set its sight upon them if it has to. It was uncontrollable, unstable, and highly aggressive, and Dr. Gonne made the executive decision to seal it away, partially with the very same essence that was used to create it in the first place, and partially with his own life. Using hideouts and underground pathways that only he and his crew knew (because he was never as loyal as he made himself out to be- Phobos always was too arrogant, in his opinion), they hid away alongside monster they created, dedicated to guarding its seal from any idiotic stragglers who are looking for hidden treasure, and get captivated by the (admittedly beautiful looking) shrine that was built to seal the Self Eater.
Having created cybernetic enhancements for themselves to do so, the unrecognizable crew of Dr. Gonne is called "Cyber Bandits" by the citizens of Nexus City, who only see them as lunatics who scramble around in the shady underground of Nexus City. Dr. Gonne himself is rarely seen leaving his lair, as his encounter with the Self Eater while sealing it left him without a Self- without a soul- yet forever connected to the Self Eater in ways he cannot explain himself. He functions, he can think, he can make decisions, and can reason based on his memories from before, but what made Dr. Herman Gonne Dr. Herman Gonne is forever lost, never to be recovered. There's an uncanniness in everything he does that cannot be explained by anyone but those who know the truth. Once he dies, there will be no recovering his soul from Purgatory, as there is nothing to recover. He will die, and his body will waste away, and that will be all.
Such is the fate of Dr. Herman Gonne.
