The Machine
Locknar - Funky Punch
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯
A mysterious and unknown entity, an Outer God that lives in, and protects The Nowhere. The Machine is intrinsically linked to every single denizen of Sornieth, including the 11 Deities, a shared bond between all living creatures that inhabit it. To what extend, only he may know, but what is clear to those that look closely, is that no matter what, nobody is able to sever that bond and survive.

The Machine is mostly emotionless, and rarely bothers himself with the affairs of Sornieth beyond simply existing, his mechanical body automatically exerting the energy that bonds him to all. He only tangentially understands what is going on in Sornieth's reality, anyway, having to extend his metaphysical arm into the world to keep tabs. As an Outer God, he has very little sense of what is and is not normal in Sornieth, and can only reason within the realms of his own thoughts and desires. He's very unlikely to use his draconic avatar to enter the realm of Sornieth's reality, and almost never does so.

The only time his draconic avatar is summoned, is when he senses someone trying to interfere with his business or with The Nowhere from outside; it doesn't matter who, or what, he will fiercely attack anyone who tries. To aid him, he will spawn mechanical beings called Clockworkers and Cog Wreckers, each of them coming into existence from nothingness. The Nowhere is not made for mortals. They should stay away.

While The Machine does not inherently wish to cause harm to Sornieth, because he is only able to view reality through his own, hazy lens, he often pokes holes through it, which slowly weakens the reality of Sornieth as a whole, driving it ever closer to destruction. The latter has been happening more and more often, and rumor has it that part of the reason for this is because something has started to weaken The Machine... but who? Or what? And how could it happen without anyone's notice? While Yukari has been investigating that, The Maker has been working tirelessly to keep Sornieth's reality from falling apart... with The Machine both working with and against him on his own whims.

Speaking of the Maker, he is also The Machine's direct sibling. They may not look anything alike, but then, Outer Gods do not share the same sense of siblinghood as we do. The way they come into existence is also far, far too complicated for our mortal minds to understand, and not comparable to anything we know.

The Machine is also the creator of the Employers, whom he put into Sornieth as his stewards, and to maintain the balance between elements. However, the Employers have their own free will, and their own ideas of how to best keep the balance in Sornieth. While they supposedly still act in the best interest of The Machine, they, too, operate in ways that is incomprehensible to mortals.

Recently, one of the holes The Machine poked in reality caused Honba to fall through, and into The Nowhere. While The Maker had to scramble to get the poor tundra back to Sornieth, The Machine viciously attacked Honba, not recognizing that it was his own actions that caused them to appear in the first place. Honba was, rather surprisingly, able to hold their own for quite a while; long enough for them to get ejected back out into reality by The Maker. They only hold vague memories of this event, and believe it to have been a dream.
