Rossestelle was born in the Ashfall Waste. Her family had little ties to the ancestral Gaoler traditions, but Rossestelle decided she wished to follow in the path the Icewarden had originally set for them. She decide to leave her clan behind and travel on her own, searching for her duty. The journey wasn't easy, but it didn't intimidate her. Since she was a hatchling, she had loved to explore and climb and hike. Crossing the Ashfall Waste wasn't hard for her, but the Southern Icefield challenged her. As a native of the Fire domain, her coat was sparser than that of most Gaolers, not as good at keeping out the cold.

Once she reached the prisons, the other Gaolers welcomed her and taught her their ways. Soon she earned herself a role as a Sentry. A decent fighter, and capable of thinking fast if needed, she made an excellent guard. With her Fire magic to light the way, she could keep guard through the darkest of nights, and search within the deepest of caves. Snowstorms never were her favorites, but she learnt to tolerate them.

She remained there for many years, until the accident. There was a break out in the prison. None of the truly horrifying, monstrous horrors kept in the deepest levels got out, rather a small group of minor Shade creatures. Some were quickly recaptured, but a few made it out. Rossestelle was one of the Sentries on duty that night. One monster was able to escape, outrunning her through the snow, until she couldn't find it anymore. A heavy blow for her, made even worse when a few weeks later reports came of a monster having killed some dragons in local clans.

The thing had to be recaptured, and Rossestelle offered herself as a volunteer to find it. She followed the trail north, crossing the ice and reaching into Starfall Isles. Sometimes, she was able to overhear rumors, or exchange information with local Seekers. But other days, the hints were more grim. Dragons or Beastclans being attacked, sometimes killed. She barely allowed herself any rest. Every day she grew more exhausted, but she persisted.

Eventually, she caught up with her target in the Crystalspine Reaches. Her fire lit up the night as she chased the Shade out of its hiding spot. She fought the thing with flames and claws, and won. This fragment of Shade was gone. But tired as she was, the fight was not her best. She came out of it wounded multiple times. No single injury was enough to be deadly, but they bled, and after they stopped bleeding they grew infected too.

Rossestelle stumbled around, delirious from exhaustion and fever. She managed to keep going out of sheer stubborness, but she wasn't even entirely sure where she was going. Without a healer, she might have ended up dying. To her luck, she was found. A Tundra named Dayshadow was searching for trinkets when it heard the sounds of a large dragon moving nearby. It couldn't physically take Rossestelle to a healer, but it looked for help. Rossestelle was taken to the Yildun Valley, where the Gaolers of Dayshadow's clan lived, and she was taken care of until her fever went down.

As she began to recover, she found herself wondering what to do next. Returning to the Southern Icefield would take a long time, and her pride still hadn't recovered from allowing those being to escape in the first place. However, she also wanted to repay the dragons who had helped her somehow. Her Sentry skill weren't of much use, but she was good at searching and exploring. She could help scavenge treasures for the clan, or find new resources in dangerous areas. While she was reassured she didn't owe anyone anything, she also wanted to make herself useful to the people who had helped her.

Besides, there was the matter of a local Gaoler named Permafrost, that was quite likeable both in terms of looks and personality, and also very plainly had a crush on her. He would make a rather fine mate, she thought. So, after some thought, she decided that she would remain in Yildun Valley for a while. One day, maybe, she would return to the prisons and put herself in service of the Icewarden again. For now, she is content spending time with the clan and offering her help in whatever ways she can provide - including making sure grounded hatchlings don't sneak out of the lair while everyone is asleep.
