Sang Jiu

Harvester

"Could I tell you there is a little clam demon who always loved you? She loved the God of War, who protected the Mohe River and the three worlds."

Sang Jiu was born into the Lightweaver's Domain but always felt a connection with the ocean. As a hatchling she would often swim in the water, delighting in the splash of water over her scales. Bright and curious, she would often wander further from home than her parents would have preferred. On one such visit, she caught sight of a bright imperial fighting in the sky. Eyes wide with awe, she stayed by the bank to watch until the other dragon flew off. From that point on, he filled her thoughts and she gradually fell in love.

When she was old enough, Sang Jiu left her birth clan to move to the Hotaru Clan. There, she drifted from job to job before finally being labelled as a harvester, although that was more for the amount of time she spent in the orchards trying the food as opposed to her actual harvesting ability. Sang Jiu spent most of her time daydreaming until a new dragon arrived at the clan.

It took her a few days before she saw the new dragon, who seemed to mostly avoid others. Their meeting was completely accidental, with Sang Jiu nearly dropping an apple on him in her shock at seeing who it was. The dragon she'd seen fighting all those years ago, who she'd fantasized over, was there in front of her eyes. She followed him around the clan after that, noting his habits with a dedication which would have surprised her family.

"It's fine. I'll forgive you this time. Just this once."

She finally got the courage to try to approach him, meekly introducing herself to the other with wide eyes. He was polite but seemed to share none of the interest she had in him. Undeterred, Sang Jiu began showing up to be trained to fight. Although skilled with a bow, she began working at the sword with Ming Ye's help. She noted that as time passed, he would often train her separately, quietly correcting her form and movements.

It was a while before she got the courage to ask him to marry her, gaze downcast and shy. At his single word agreement, she felt both elated and crushed. Finally, the dragon of her dreams was going to be her husband and yet he seemed to be hardly enthusiastic about the arrangement. Still, his solemn vows of love and devotion convinced her that this was the right choice, as did the house he built for them with the transplanted apple tree, the same one she'd been in when they'd first met, beside it. Sang Jiu often gives Ming Ye an apple when he leaves, both to remind him of her and as a promise that he would return.

Sang Jiu is a bright but lazy individual. Many in the clan would describe her as endlessly optimistic, naïve, and energetic. Outside of Ming Ye, she tends to be easy friends with most of the others in the Hotaru Clan. With her love of the water, she is one of the only dragons to have seen Undine, playing with the other dragon amongst the waves. She hasn't told anyone about the other dragon, mostly because with the other dragon being silent save for singing a haunting song she cannot tell if she wants her presence known.
