Biography

| LUMA | [♫] Dangerous Flower
{ Floral Toxicologist | She/Her | Bi }

Luma was a tag-along child. Wherever her cousin went, she was sure to follow, always reaching for his hand with sticky hatchling fingers. Curtis was her role model; he was tall, and trim, and more beautiful than any of his peers. All of the local children loved him (or were in love with him), and Luma thought, if she just stood near enough to him, she might be able to absorb some of his radiance.

They developed their love of flowers together on the ever-blooming hills of their rural hometown, under the watchful eye of the distant Beacon. However, while Curtis’ was nurturing, Luma’s was treacherous; she found their toxic properties fascinating and wondered if they could be put to some practical use. Her ventures were risky, only growing more so as she aged. That, her family said, was to be expected, for Curtis had always been the light, and Luma had spent her youth in the shadow he had cast.

So Curtis became a florist, and Luma turned to toxicology, and as time wore on, they began to see less and less of one another. Luma, who had only ever known life at her cousin’s side, became reclusive, spending long hours in her greenhouses and laboratory. She loved her cousin and had believed that they would remain close as they aged. She had been so certain of this, in fact, that she had never bothered to make any other friends. Without Curtis, she was alone.

One day in spring, she received a letter from him, the first in a very long time. “I’ve gone away to the south,” he informed her, “to Clan Feldspar. There’s a shop there that’s just come on the market; it would be perfect for me, and you know how much I’ve always admired their territory. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you in person, but I had to race down to finalize the arrangements. I’ll be sure to visit now and again, so please don’t throw a fit.”

Luma, stricken with grief, followed Curtis to the south, across the mountains, and met him in the village square. “If you’re going to live here,” she said, tears stinging her eyes, “then so am I!”

The founders, amused by her antics and moved by her love for her cousin, were quick to grant Luma residency within their lands, much to Curtis’ chagrin. She settled down in a quiet corner of the capital and started a modest business. Much of the clan’s toxic flora now come directly from her stores, for use in potions and medicines; she has made a comfortable life for herself, despite her tumultuous arrival.

Even now, she remains close to her cousin, her best friend and most trusted confidant—but with a bit of nudging from him, she has blossomed into a sociable young woman, well-known among her clanmates as easygoing and affable.
