Biography
Gnash
Once, Gnash was an utterly ruthless gladiator, fighting battle after battle in the arena. He was a multi-year champion, and became renowned for his raw bite force, which could shatter his opponent’s bones with just a twitch of his jaws. He became proud, and arrogant. He became rude, and mean. He believed himself better than everybody else, and the proof was in the fact that he was undefeated in battle.
But finally, Gnash was defeated. The teeniest, tiniest of Veilspuns used her illusions and elaborate magic to deceive his eyes, and the false visions she gave him robbed him of his will to fight. That was when she struck, and the Goliath warrior that was Gnash was defeated.
Gnash was humiliated. Not just to be defeated by a fellow warrior of raw brute power, but to be defeated by dancing lights and trickery — he couldn’t imagine a worse fate for himself. And neither could his fellow gladiators, nor his clanmates; both groups chose to shun him, forcing him into a life of exile. He wandered from place to place, and many times dragons would stop him to ponder where they might have seen his face before, only to quickly hush their mouths, duck their heads, and scurry on their way when they remembered that this was the shell of a once-great warrior.
Finally, he found his way to Electrician’s Edge, and they agreed to shelter the fallen gladiator in exchange for the use of his raw power to protect the clan. With gritted teeth — the same teeth that once crushed bones — Gnash reluctantly agreed, and found himself a new place to stay. Perhaps not home yet, but maybe one day.
Gnash is just as rude and ruthless as he was at the height of his fame, with the added bitterness from his defeat. He holds a special disdain for particularly small dragons, as they remind him of the sneaky Veilspun who defeated him and her cheeky grin as he toppled. He often helps to train other dragons in self-defense, but very reluctantly so, and he’s a harsh trainer who snaps and snarls over every tiny mistake. Maybe better warriors are born as a result, but Gnash isn’t exactly making himself any friends this way, either.
