When Ophion had been very little, he ran afoul of a curse.

Only one of his heads can be awake at once - the two of them take turns, leaving himself notes so he doesn't get confused between one night and the next. It gets easier and harder: easier once he's used to it, once he works out a system of how to do something that might take multiple days and how best to explain this to friends he might make. Harder because the longer he's like this, the less alike his two heads are in how they make decisions.

He used to be the same person as himself. It's getting worse.

When he found Merilee, he thought she'd be a kindred spirit in identity crises. If not commiseration, at least advice? She's sympathetic about his curse and the logistical difficulties that come with, but when he raises his concerns about becoming apart from himself, she only laughs and says: then isn't it wonderful to have another friend?
