Merilee has a secret: she's haunted.

The ghost - her third head, she likes to call them - has been here as long as she can remember, nestling under her skin and across her scales when she tumbled from the eggshell, and she doesn't mind them at all. Sometimes, one of her heads will go to sleep so that they can talk to her. It's possible that they take over her body when both her other heads are asleep, but if that's true, they're always quite polite about it and she never wakes up anywhere suspicious or inconvenient.

Ophion actually met her third head first, and so he's the only one who knows her secret. He's lonely, and she's a crowd; she has three times the joy of most other dragons, three times the favourite foods and colours, and she can't wait to show him all the things there are to love in the world.
