Aegis

Naomi.

Not an uncommon name, one many bear, but to the right ears, to anyone who has looked through the veils and seen, it is a name of power and reverence and secrets. Normally not something I would involve myself with, not something even I would risk bearing scrutiny for inviting. But the line I found is diluted. Strong, yes, but a shallow shadow of what could be, mixed with the song of the stars and no longer tied to just one progenitor. A threadbare connection that is easily exploited.

Capella is young, confident, and desires most of all to chase the fleeting trails of stardust left behind by her forebears. Ambitious. Naïve. And all too willing to believe. The two eggs resting in the nest she has given me are cloth and cotton and needles, sharp and smelling of snowmelt.


A success. My new daughters are just as I imagined they would be. They shine with their grandmother's starlight, their voices given to devastating power when rising in song, and beneath it all is the shadow of the artificial soul of my kind. A lineage so corrupted by darkness, so desperately striving to claw out of the mire their founder called upon all of them; it is so beautiful to see them fall willingly into the mire with smiles made of needles.

Aegis takes after her mother, a powerful mage with great connection to both the elements and something far more sinister. She is a swift learner and has great pride in her control of her range of abilities, almost to the point of arrogance. Her journey once she leaves my lair is certain to be an interesting one.
