Underneath the gatehouse, a lone guard shelters from the rain. Sometimes there, sometimes not, the gate guard claims he never moves from his post and never reveals where he goes. A simple groove in the mud marks the only nest he allows himself to have.
Time never moves forward in the Brambles. Only the eerie light shifts of day and night mark any passage at all. Occasionally dragons will appear from beyond the city, from the Forum or the Gladeveins or the Hewn City, or stranger and more distant territories. These dragons leave their stories at the gates, moving on into the depths of Murkbarrow without hopes, vices, or even their names. Time never moves forward in the Brambles. Dragons do, towards the end.
