ABOUT

Tricksey very much lived up to her name. She loved to play tricks on people, loved seeing them confused and lost at what was going on. Of course nothing ever fell back on her. After all, why would they blame the village healer for their misfortune? Now for a slight trickster, she only played tricks on people she thought deserved it. Usually it was the men that pushed for her hand in marriage just a tad bit too much. Why should she settle down? She was young and wanted adventure…not love. After many months, Tricksey stood in town square to announce that whoever could retrieve the key from her beautiful cat would win her hand in marriage.

Unbeknown to all the unlucky townsfolk, she was the cat. Tricksey made it her duty to make sure no one would catch her of course. The traps that were laid out everywhere she made sure to avoid. There was one time she was chased through town square causing such a mess of everything. She did feel a little bad about that mess so she made sure she helped pick it up.

This little charade went on for many years, some men seemed to never give up. Until one day a newcomer showed up at the village. He was a mysterious man who seemed to only be passing through. This man heard the whispers of a beautiful woman who refused to settle down unless someone could retrieve the key that dangled around the cat’s neck. The man scoffed at how all the villagers went about trying to capture the cat day in and day out that when he happened across the cat he offered it something she was never offered before:

“Here kitty, would you like some milk?” The man asked while Tricksey was high up in a tree. He watched her for many moments before he did something she did not expect. He left…completely left. She slowly ventured down the tree curious on where he went, but there was no sign of him anywhere. This went on for many days, until one day he just sat at the bottom of the tree. She slowly made her way down far away from the stranger. Once her paws hit the earth he pushed another bowl of milk to her. “No worries, I won’t chase you.” He spoke softly as he watched the cat drink the milk. Once the milk was gone he left her alone. Being beyond confused, Tricksey decided to do some investigation into this man.

No longer in her cat form, she found him in a tavern drinking a beer. Her eyes studied the man wondering why he was here. Slowly making her way to him she slid in the seat across from him. “So tell me, why is it that you do not chase my cat?” She asked the stranger. He looked at her and shook his head, “Well Darling, that poor cat has been through enough. Why keep the men on a string if you never plan to marry any of them?” He countered with a smirk. She paused, this was the first time anyone had spoken in concern for the cat.
