MAGNUS
blacksmith | mentor | metalworker "he/him" |

History xxDeep within a cave in the Ashfall Waste, a newly hatched Imperial stumbles from his eggshell. The room was awash in a warm orange glow and the Imperial notes with wonder that it was coming from him. Thin veins of hot liquid rock flows across his body and as his wonder and excitement grows, the veins glow brighter. A Molten Lava Dragon had been born. xxAs his parents usher Magnus into the clan's main cave to meet everyone, Magnus realizes that he wasn't quite like the rest. For one, he was burning hot to the point the others keep their distance and two, he has those lovely glowing veins whereas no one else seems to have them. Despite his differences, the clan welcomes him with open arms, as if he was very important. Magnus eats up the attention, not questioning why they treat him so specially. xxA few months pass in the blink of an eye. Magnus gets used to the clan catering to him, bringing the finest food, the best toys, and lavishing him with attention at seemingly every waking moment. The other hatchlings his age did not seem to like him much, but Magnus doesn't care, they weren't special like he was. xxWhen he was a few years old, his parents come into his room and ask him to eat a piece of metal ore. Magnus doesn't want to, the ore looking and smelling bad to him. His parents insist, getting frustrated when he kept refusing. For the first time in his life, Magus got grounded. xxHe doesn't understand what that means, thinking his parents were joking. They were serious though, and they insist he eat the ore. Magnus, despite not wanting to, ate the ore. His parents coo over him, telling him to wait a moment before regurgitating it. It shocked Magnus, the very idea not sounding pleasant to him at all. He did as they asked though, disliking every minute of it. |
xxNot knowing much about the outside world, and definitely not knowing much of hardship, Magnus found himself almost losing his life more than once outside of the cave he had called home. Shade-tinted beastclans chase him away from fresh water, while monsters attack him in the forests. There are times he thinks about returning home, but the fake way his clan treats him always has him powering on, going that extra mile.
xxHe travels to the border of the Shifting Expanse, not knowing he was entering desert territory. The landscape grows harsher and with it, Magnus's despair. How was he, a pampered young dragon, supposed to survive? By pure luck, he stumbles upon another Imperial named Abran. At first, Abran wants nothing to do with him, but the sad and pathetic sight of Magnus changes his heart. Together, they leave the desert behind for better pastures.
xxAbran, while fascinated with Magnus's physiology, wants nothing to do with his powers. For the first time in his life, Magnus is able to make a friend that cares about him not for his powers, but for himself. Abran helps Magnus acclimate to the world, though he does so distractedly due to focusing on his work more than Magnus. As Magnus fascinated Abran, Abran's work fascinated Magnus. He finds himself volunteering to use his powers to help Abran's projects, and to use his powers for his own projects.
xxThroughout his years at his birth clan, Magnus was never let near the actual forges. Curious about the process, Magnus tests his ability by forging something of his own. While the first few projects end in mangled failure, Abran insists that Magnus has talent. His words embolden Magnus to continue trying.
xxThe two of them travel north along the beaches of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, seeking out crystals, ore, and gemstones. They don't stop there though, they continue along the northeastern side of the continent, seeing the sights and honing their crafts.
xxWhile traveling through the Shrieking wilds, Magnus faceplants into a hole in the ground. He inadvertently finds the sunroof of the Druidkeep Den, and breaks his leg in the process. Bird, the matriarch of the den, welcomes the two of them into her home. The clan treats Magnus with awe and respect, and Magnus fears that this clan would be a repeat of his birth clan. He needn't worry, while the clan is curious about his powers, as soon as he tells them he doesn’t want to use them, they back off.
xxMagnus relaxes and lets himself be himself with the clan. As he heals, he comes to find that the Druidkeep Den holds everything he could ever need, a library to learn about metals and minerals, and a forge in which to practice. Even after he heals, he stays.
xxIt doesn't take long for him to become adept at smithing, eagerly relaying all the information he learns to anyone that will listen. He enjoys showing off for the hatchlings, using his latent powers for himself instead of others.
xxOne day, as he regurgitates some silver for a hatchling, Clockwork the Pearlcatcher walks up to ask for Magnus' help. Embarrassed he was caught doing something so gross in front of such a pretty Pearlcatcher, Magnus agrees to her request without question.
xxThe commission goes smoothly and both parties are happy with the outcome, or so Magnus thinks. Clockwork comes back not too long after, requesting another job. Though it confuses Magnus on why she needed her parts upgraded when they were already in top form, he takes the job with enthusiasm.
xxClockwork keeps coming back, each request more flimsy than the last. Finally, as Clockwork was leaving after her most recent commission, Magnus leans over and gives her a kiss on the cheek for goodbye. They've been together ever since.

Molten Lava Dragon
|
These dragons are made of searing hot rock, and veins of escaped lava are spread out along their body. These lava veins cool to a black or heat up to a glowing orange, largely depending on the emotion of the Molten Lava dragon in question. The intense internal temperatures of these dragons allow them to practically be walking forges. They often help out clan blacksmiths, due to their ability to consume ore and regurgitate liquid metal for smelting. When aggravated, the lava veins become intensely bright and hot. Anything that comes in contact with them will likely instantaneously burst into flame. The ability to regurgitate liquid hot metal makes them a terrifying enemy in battle, and it's usually not a good idea to find out firsthand how far they can spit. Very protective of their home clan, whether they were born into the clan or adopted into it, they will do whatever they have to to keep their clans safe. |
Information Name // MAGNUS -- Origin of name // Scandinavian masc. proper name, popular with early kings, the first to use it was Magnus I, king of Norway and Denmark (d. 1047), who evidently took it in emulation of Charlemagne (Latin Carolus Magnus) under the impression that magnus (Latin, literally "great," from PIE root *meg- "great") was a personal name. Age // 74 -- Birthday // february 22nd Occupation // metalworker and blacksmith Role // mentor Personality // best friends with ransom and bonds over their shared fire flight background. also best friends and enjoys working with abran to make magical weapons and artifacts. clockwork and he can be pretty gross with their affection sometimes, bringing each other little trinkets they've made while they're supposed to be working. magnus gets very excited to show the hatchlings and younger dragons how to do smithing, and is always ready to talk your ears off about the properties of different metals. (faunus is probably his favorite pupil because he let mangus talk for easily over an hour, taking notes the entire time) -- Likes // -- Dislikes // Familiar // NOODLE -- Role of familiar // noodle can most often be found laid out on top of magnus, soaking in the warmth he's constantly putting out. |
