Has an anxiety problem. Which isn't really a medical thing, just him. Hesitates at thresholds into any private or already-occupied spaces because what if he's intruding, or not welcome? Likewise group activities and even meals—even if he's interested, he can't bring himself to just join. He can circle a bit, maybe venture a question or nod when someone glances over, shuffle away before it gets unbearably awkward, maybe drift back if he really is interested... until someone already part of the group says "Wanna?" (And then he can be perfectly content to ignore and be ignored by everyone present while he does his own part in the activity, because he's invited.) Wound up in charge of the lair food stores because food goes bad but it shouldn't be wasted, so it's necessary to rotate everything to make sure it gets used while still good, and also make sure there's enough to feed so many dragons but not too much to get eaten while fresh unless it can be preserved but then there's only so much storage space so... He made a system he checks it every day.

Has a counting thing (which is also just him). It matters how many of something there is so it can be divided evenly so he counts everything when dividing food into portions. Order is soothing. He does a lot of food preparation but even if it's something meant to be served immediately there's no dumping it onto plates, each food type goes neatly and carefully into its place in a box. With dividers to keep them separate; you can't mix things before eating that will just make a soggy single-flavored congealed mess. Sameness is soothing too. He's fine making the same meal boxes over and over and over again, although variety is good so he's fine with making this many boxes with rice, octopus, nori and mirin; this many boxes with noodles, tofu, daikon and soy sauce; this many boxes with rice, pork, daikon and mirin; this many boxes with with noodles, pork, nori, and soy sauce...

Has recommended coping methods for his anxiety problem, which he uses because they help even if from the outside they maybe look a little dumb. Sometimes dragons make fun of him while he's using them. (He has coping methods for that, too, which he uses...) He has explicit permission to cope with that kind of insensitive behavior by biting or squashing offenders but he doesn't want that, he doesn't want violence or being made fun of. Lairmates who do like violence are happy to take offense on his behalf so they can dish out punishment but he doesn't want that either. It just escalates the situation!
Puddleglum is the only one who gets it, but every time he talks to her he comes away with his anxiety so much worse (the coping method for such an easily avoidable known trigger is "don't," so... he doesn't, much.) | _ |
Remy tried to give Tofu a pillow. Tofu asked why. Remy said pillows make things better. ...Tofu took the pillow. |
