the Outcasts | he/him

Personality:

Stellian is very intelligent, and he knows it. He never goes out of his way to brag, but he also sees no point in being humble or attempting to hide it. He is very blunt and frequently sarcastic, often to the point of offending other dragons. He is also an introvert who quickly becomes irritated and overwhelmed around many other dragons, so he tends to spend the better part of his time alone. His personality drives many dragons away, which is fine by him, since he prefers his solitude anyway—but he’s true to his ideals, and his clanmates who have gotten to know him recognize that he does care about them—he just doesn’t express it quite the same way as most.

Backstory:

He was a prestigious, well-respected scholar working at a research facility. But he poked his nose somewhere it didn’t belong and exposed some corruption in the structure of the organization, and for it he was immediately kicked out and the rumor was spread that he was a traitor. So he was forced to leave and traveled the world for a while, doing what he pleased and collecting knowledge. Stellian was mostly fine with this, except for a couple things: one, he has a chronic pain condition that causes occasional flare-ups which can be debilitating, and this was very difficult for him to manage living alone. Also, it was difficult for him to devote time to doing research when he had no materials at his disposal and had to use his time hunting and stuff, so he was on the lookout for a clan to join, and that’s how he found the Outcasts. He joined them purely out of self-interest, pleased to find a clan that would unquestioningly accept him and not require anything in return. He certainly didn’t expect to get attached to his new clanmates. But, although some of them got on his nerves, the clan was tight knit in a way he’d never experienced before, and he was soon pulled into that messy family too.

Aurel
Aurel is Stellian’s adoptive daughter. He won’t use that word to describe her, and Aurel doesn’t call him her father, but everyone knows it’s more or less true. It was only coincidence that Stellian was the one who found her and brought her back to the Outcasts, but Aurel has never forgotten it. While Stellian is not exactly the affectionate type, it’s clear that he has a soft spot for her, as she’s one of the only dragons spared his usual wry, sarcastic bluntness.

Julian
The two knew each other as teenagers, so you can imagine their mutual surprise when they met for the first time in years when Kya’s ship first arrived on Outcast territory. For Stellian, who always found Julian annoying at best and completely insufferable at worst, that surprise was largely the unpleasant kind. For Julian, who had always enjoyed antagonising Stellian, it was a kind of mischievous, disbelieving glee. The Outcasts were equal parts baffled and amused by Stellian’s petty, almost childish irritation whenever Julian was around, having never seen the usually cool and composed scholar behave that way before. (His more perceptive clanmates saw through to the reason Julian was able to ruffle his feathers quite so much, and so were not surprised when their bickering rivalry eventually developed into a… rather unconventional romantic relationship.)
