Far and away in the light flight, a young Pearlcatcher was once born. A gentle but courageous soul, the little dragon had many friends he sought to impress, and, naively, he made his way into the Hewn City. Dared to extract an artifact from its ghastly streets, he extracted from the darkness and rubble a deep red pendant. Proudly bearing his prize around his neck, he turned to leave but found himself growing sick and weak before passing out. He awoke days later--famished, dirty, and dehydrated--to find himself in the form of a Fae, with his pearl nowhere in sight. Even removing the cursed necklace did nothing to help; in fact, it seemed bound to him, for it could not be taken from his neck. Devastated by the loss of his pearl and shunned for its loss, with bitter tears he left his clan and sought to find a dragon powerful enough to lift or override the curse.

It was luck (or perhaps the lack thereof) that led him to the Lavaflow Labyrinth. Lereko was utterly lost when he was found by a patrol and offered him two days' rest there. (How did he even come to find himself in the Ashfall Waste? He had no idea. Wasn't he flying towards the arcane lands? No?) It was during the evening of his stay that he found a strikingly similar but beautiful Fae who called herself Ayita. They hit it off almost immediately, and it was much to their surprise that each discovered the other was changed into a Fae. The difference was that Ayita desired her transformation, where Lereko sought to have it undone. "He will come and find you," Ayita told him of the dragon responsible. "He will know what you seek."

That night, the Tundra Basalt came and found him, whispering into his ear that he knew his desire and just how possible it was. Following Basalt to his lair, the strange Tundra explained that though he could not lift it or revert it, the curse could be worked around: a potion every fortnight could initiate and maintain a breed change. He was even willing to do it for free, the normally greedy dragon said with a smirk, for the price would be paid in pain. The transformation would be a struggle. The suppressed magic of the curse, requiring by its design to be physically expressed, would escape as painful wounds that seep liquid magical residue. Lereko requested time to think about it. But as he spent more time with Ayita the next day, he was convinced that if she could be happy being something else, so could he: especially with her. He declined the offer the next night. Basalt was not pleased in the slightest. It is said that this is the moment when Basalt turned on him and Ayita, seeking to do them harm when the opportunity arises. Still, the two live peacefully, performing ritual dances to thank the Flamecaller for the help of her clans in finding their paths.

Lereko is a gentle soul. Although quite courageous, he is generally calm and reasonable, so long as it doesn't involve teasing him for the loss of his pearl. He does not react favorably to that, if you call a display of tears and threatening to tear your guts out as an unfavorable reaction rather than a concerningly threatening one. He's rather sensitive, you know, but usually does a fair job of hiding it. He is quite devoted to Ayita.
