G L A D Y S Grandmother of the Monastery
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Dearie, dearie come inside The stars are frozen in the sky A chill wind blows a lonely cry As two worlds hurtle to collide" Gladys is an older Spiral, and is affectionately seen throughout the Monastery as a grandmotherly figure. She has a knack for gardening and growing crops, in spite of the otherworldly chill that seems to emanate from the little dragon at all times. In fact, you usually feel Gladys before you see her, as the breath in your throat catches with an icy hitch, and goosebumps rise across your skin. Although cold in presence, she is a kindly and good-natured lady, always ready to welcome friend and traveler alike into her home for tea and a chat with old lady Gladys. According to her, she wandered far and wide throughout Sornieth when she was a "youngin", and saw many fantastic places, dragons, and creatures, and is always eager to share her tales to those willing to listen. Some of these tales talk of things simply too outlandish to exist - ancient mechanical cities in the sky, secretive species of dragons who hide themselves from others, great "star leviathans" who sing "secret-songs" and ghostly two-legged specters who chatter and whisper of times long since gone, to name but a few. It is over the course of these questionable travels she says is where she "learned one secret too many" and the icy aura that surrounds her "became a permanent fixture of her being". Most of the Monastery residents shake off these tales as an old lady's imagination taking a whimsical turn, however as she tells these stories with such sincerity, some allow themselves to believe, if only for a moment, that the world may house such wonders as Gladys recounts. The longer she is allowed to reminisce, the more unnerving her tales become. When asked about her age, she maintains that she has lost count, but is certainly not a day over 800.
[ notes ]
» Seems to engage in conversation with the little birds in her garden. » Speaks of her grandchildren, who nobody else has seen. » Crops she harvests must be defrosted before consumption. » Directs most of her worship towards Icewarden and Gladekeeper. » Aggressively competitive at bingo.

Hmm, Gladys? A nice lady. A little odd. The others chatter about her, and get overly excited. Don't listen to the rumours. She's harmless. Lonely, but harmless.
