Ysbrand is a vicious member of the Seeker Order of the gaoler ancients. So vicious, in fact, that he sought out greater power in a place far from home just so that he could honor his pledge more effectively than ever. The arrival of Necromancers to his Clan taught him that while Icewarden had his charge, Plaguebringer had the means to do it better. The Shade is a powerful foe, one that Ice dragons have nigh perfected the containment thereof. But bringing it to justice and keeping it sealed away is something that is a constant struggle. Some even succumb to its dark whispers. Ysbrand has seen some of those Liches in his travels across Sornieth. Using the teachings of Icewarden and Plaguebringer together, Ysbrand has taken the trials of the Necromancer and adopted a Necroservus to help him seize rogue Shade-touched and Shade fragments. Together, he and his mate Iseult travel Sornieth in search of Liches and Shade to bring into custody for their Clan.

A Gaolers’ sheer strength and durability make them invaluable allies and truly intimidating rivals. Their keen sense of smell enables them to sniff out even the smallest traces of the Shade-touched. This makes them extremely adept at ferreting out Lichs and their ilk from the Council’s ranks. In many Gaolers' opinion, the Shade exists as a being that threatens the natural order of life on Sornieth, therefore it must be overcome, contained, and if possible, eradicated. As a species, Gaolers have little patience for the weak or inept, making them rather apt students of the Plaguemother’s teachings. -From Subspecies Thread

bP5dXUP.png Ysbrand was not born a gaoler. Instead, he was born another breed by a Necromancer and her Wraith mate. A guardian by birth, his Charge was something he sought out very early in life. He was certain before he became a fledgling that he was meant to hunt down the Shade. He was meant to be a Necromancer. Thanks to the teachings of his parents and his devotion to his Clan, he traveled Sornieth the moment his wings could carry him in search of the power he needed to take care of his Charge. He first took the Necromantic Trials of Plaguebringer, passing them with everything in his soul--then sought out the next step to becoming what he was meant to be. It meant that his Charge would no longer bind him, but he knew in his heart and mind that he would always keep it.

He would always be the instrument of Icewarden, using Plaguebringer's power to do what he was meant to. The magic he was seeking was powerful and rare, something that even his plague-born parents did not quite understand. Delving into the depths of the Clan and dealing with some of the most powerful and dubious magi, he found what he was after. A ritual that would turn him into one of Icewarden's first. It would rob him of his wings, but it would give him the power to contain and hunt the Shade.

The ritual worked, and he wears his new form and body with pride and skill. Honing his claws and fangs to fight the very thing that threatens all of Sornieth, Ysbrand has become that which he has always wished. An instrument of two gods, a force to be reckoned with. He has bonded with a Necroservus over his time traveling Sornieth seeking out sources of Shade activity and Iseult has become his steadfast ally and mate. The pair are as powerful as they are inseparable. They bring more captured Shade back to the lands of Ice than any others in their Clan.
