PERSONALITY

Virax was a driven young dragon. Driven to prove himself, to show that he was strong. He journeyed the world as a wyrmling looking for a proper challenge to mark him as worthy of being something more than just some other guardian. In a way, he got what he wanted, but at the same time, being a Wraith, he’s also overlooked by the very subspecies of dragons he tried to become a part of. He is not a Necromancer, not in the way he wished to be. He has been conflicted ever since he falsely lived through his trials. Should he have gone back home? To the Ashfall Wastes? Should he have sought out another place to live out the rest of his worthless life?

No. Plaguebringer would never have saved him by proxy if he was meant for less. Virax does believe that, if nothing else. Still, he is a guardian, and in Anaphylaxis, he found his Charge. He doesn’t like it, but he knows in his heart that it is real. It is the burden of every guardian dragon that lives, that a Charge be found and protected. Most of the time he’d rather put an end to the Necromancer’s life, and she’s left an argument with singed wingsails before, but he’s never been able to deliver the death blow. Either out of fear for Mother’s wrath, or for fear of how much worse his life would be without his Charge, he cannot say.

For all his indignation that Anaphylaxis is his Charge, of all things, Virax is fiercely loyal to her, as all guardians are to their Charges. He will defend her when she gets herself into trouble from talking too much or insulting other dragons. Anaphylaxis is only fortunate that Virax is large enough to back up his claim of defense for her.

Anaphylaxis isn’t the only thing that infuriates Virax. There are many things, from the lack of respect he gets from fellow Necromancers due to his Wraith status, to dragons that think he’s somehow cowed by a little female mirror. Virax is a blatant hot-head and won’t back down from a fight. He’s gotten plenty of scars to show that he’s not only fought, but lived through every single one. Mother’s marks or no, he will not be taken lightly.

Body riddled with disease wrought upon him by another, he was determined to end it. For the pain to just stop. He’d come to this realm to prove his strength, to find a reason to be. To find his Charge. But not even the fire in his soul was enough to ease the burden of Mother’s touch upon him. It was over, and he would at least die in her embrace, under her weeping, bloody eyes. He never wanted help, never asked for help. And yet, some mercy was visited upon him.

Another dragon, on the last stage of her trials, had something to prove. She’d proven her ability to withstand the contagions wrought upon her. She had her stripes. But there was one thing she still had to do. Loathe though she was to do it, the Necromancer trial Anaphylaxis found the dying guardian on the slopes of the Wyrmwound and used her magic to suck the virulence from his body and mind like drawing poison from a wound. No one witnessed the event save perhaps Plaguebringer herself.

Exhausted and weak, the Fire guardian raised his eyes to his savior, to the mirror that healed him, contained and destroyed every illness in his body, taking it into her own as though it was some sort of sustenance. Any thought he might have had to thank the other dragon was dashed when she opened her mouth. She was arrogant, her innuendo taxing. Virax watched her through narrowed eyes, hating her, knowing he owed her--this foul creature--his very life.

They scuffled on the edge of the Wyrmwound, but she prevailed, Virax weakened by his plight. He couldn’t bring himself to thank her aloud. He also couldn’t admit to himself that he had found his Charge. Virax has cursed himself for ever stepping into the Scarred Wasteland and taking on the challenge of the Necromantic Trials. Some days he wishes he’d have just died of his sickness. But Mother had plans for him. Obviously.

Anaphylaxis became his Charge. The guardian follows her even now as a member of her entourage, taking her verbal abuse, bristling at her provocative nature, but protecting her nonetheless. Mother had a plan. He tells himself he does it for Her. It’s the only way he can accept supporting such an irritating Necromancer. They butt heads constantly, but Anaphylaxis constantly reminds him that he owes her, so he submits in the end. Submits to her personality and her experimentation.

It is the rumors of hidden potential within the Wraith variant of Necromantic dragons that drive Anaphylaxis’s experiments upon him. As much as he hates her, Virax serves as a loyal member of her entourage, saved from obscurity by her notice.

Unusual Eyes

Dragons with unusual eyes have depths in magical ability that can be hard to fathom. Their powers run deep, as their bodies serve as a reservoir they can draw on even when external resources run thin. Unfortunately, their endurance can also make them reckless. Unusual-eyed dragons might overextend themselves if they're not familiar with their own limits. If these dragons are touched by Mother's Blessing in the first trial they soon find that they can overcome the plague through sheer force of will. They beat back the sickness limb from limb, organ by organ, until it lies dormant within them, ready to be called upon. While it is rare for an unusual-eyed dragon to fail the second trial, they have no guarantees in passing the third.

Necromantic Symbol - Tools

A symbol of self-actualization, determination, progress, action, manipulation, creativity, and resourcefulness. Necromancers bearing tools are forward-thinking and ambitious. They are seldom content with what is, instead urging their clan and leaders toward what could be. Where many Necromancers are bogged down by tradition and dogma, these individuals readily embrace Mother's doctrine of evolution, urging all around them to become more.
