NOTES ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

It seems like most families have that one child that runs off to college and becomes an entirely new creature. Usually, they turn into artists or atheists, which is a shock to their families, but everyone gets over it eventually.

And on the other hand, there’s dragons like Chiron’s sister, Ladora, who turned into a cultist.

Chiron insists that the Starhearts aren’t a cult. “She’s not isolated,” he explained to me, “and she’s really happy, and she’s made a lot of friends.”

He insists that only a few of the Starhearts go overboard with their rituals, and that the majority of them are perfectly nice and normal. And besides, Ladora’s father (Chiron’s stepfather) attended some of their meetings to make sure his daughter was safe, and he decided it was harmless.

I say they are foolish. I’m no expert, but Starheartism seems to revolve around the idea of summoning the Arcanist back to earth. This is done through vague, arcane-flavored rituals, and unless I’ve missed the literal descent of a god, they haven’t worked yet. Wouldn’t that naturally lead the cultists (excuse me, “the spiritually minded”) to gradually adopt more invasive means to reach their goal?

Ladora may be safe for now, but if she’s truly devoted, I highly doubt she’ll be satisfied with burning incense and stargazing for much longer.
