These predators are most commonly found in Europe and Asia. They are the national animal of Romania. They are known to be extremely stealthy creatures and can live in an area unknown for years. The lynx is mainly nocturnal although they do hunt during the day when food is most scarce. They patrol their area regularly using scent marks to indicate their presence which includes faces, urine, or scrape marks. They typically will pray on fairly large sized mammals and birds. The lynx can jump to about two meters high to reach birds in the air.

During mating season females only go into oestrus once but if they lose their first litter they will go into oestrus a second time. Gestation will last from 67-74 days. When the young are born they open their eyes after ten-twelve days and will take solid food around seven weeks. They will not be fully weaned till around 5-6 months and they will reach sexual maturity around 2-3 years.
