Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this daring adventurer wandered a little too far from his home lair (crowbartender #605492), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, to the Dragons Off To See The World thread or to the Traveling Dragon Rest Hub, if you don't want another dragon in return. Please refrain from exalting him!

VeiledVision || Daylight Sanctum || 22/11/22

Born in the Daylight Sanctum. Not much is known about his origin, but Hermes is convinced his dad is a strong Obelisk and that's what he wants to be too!

You're on your way to visit a friend in another clan. On your journey, you pass through the Reedcliff Ascent. The winds are particularly strong one day as it begins to storm, and it would be risky to try flying. You decide to land and find some shelter and something to eat.

The Ascent is a series of towering cliffs with plenty of ledges and caves. You swoop into one, folding your wings, and survey the shelter.

The cave seems empty of other dragons, well-sheltered from the whistling winds and rain outside. The remains of a fire rest to the left, where someone had set up camp for a bit.

Ahead of you, the path stretches on, then takes a sharp left turn. With nothing else to do, you decide to follow it.

There are several rooms carved out into the space. One is caved in, and another has a stone rolled over its entrance. At the far end a faded symbol has been painted into the stone, perhaps of some small clan or family that dug out the cave. It is faded, and the writing underneath is unreadable.

After examining it, you decide to enter the nearest room.

This room must have belonged to a Fae due to its small size. A nest of blankets and pillows takes up the corner, and the ceiling has been strung with now-extinguished lights. There is a key in the middle of the floor, tarnished with age. Maybe it unlocks something else in the cave? You put it in your travel bag, just in case.

The next room has been caved in, and is impossible to enter without some kind of excavation tool. You move on.

The next room has a stone rolled over it. You think you might be able to move it if you tried.

The final room, closest to the entrance, has a moth-eaten tapestry hanging over the front. You push past it to enter, finding a large chest. It's about the size of a dragon. Perhaps it was once a wardrobe?

You notice that the sounds of the storm outside are quieting, and return to the entrance to check. The squall is calming down now, and the clouds are dissipating. It's time to continue your journey.

However, what you found intrigued you. You decide you have enough time to investigate one thing before moving on. You take the key back out of your travel bag and slot it into the lock. It's fits perfectly! You open the doors and find a tiny Obelisk hatchling. It seems to have reverted back to its statue form, and is hugging itself as it waits to be found and rescued. With the light now spilling into the old closet, the hatchling opens its eyes.

crowbartender || Magmablood Rebuke || 25/11/22

Curious little Hermes (2 days old), say he wants to be a traveler when he's grown up! His adoptive mom, Swampwitch, laughs and says he's a proper windie even though he's born from light! He saw the big kids in the coliseum and is pleading at Swampwitch to let him go too. Or a least watch? He wants to be a ferocious fighter when he's all grown up!

Today is the day! He had his first fighting practice and he trained so much his muscles got so tense he almost reverted back into a statue! Mirroreater, who trained him told him he's got the heart of a warrior, and said that he could help overhearing his plans of traveling the world. He is even older than Swampwitch and comes from the Southern Icefield! He told Hermes the story how when he was young and full of adventure, he himself journeyed all over Sornieth. He says he even got to see the Observatory and Rotrock Rim... The talk about the strange creatures and other kinds of dragon made Hermes even more curious, if possible!

Over a good nights sleep he decided its time for him to move on. He feels ready to leave! In the morning over a hearty meal he thanked his hosts and trainers, who in return gifted him a magically shifting map and a journal (to write down all the interesting things he might encounter). Hermes gathered his pack with rations, his familiar and a small amount of treasure and made his way down the volcano to the shore. He already has a feeling where he will go next, wondering at the same time what the world has in store for him.

BlueEyesNeko || Singer's Brook || 1/13/23

Hermes came to The Spectrum early one morning, after flying all night. He was exhausted. He somehow made it past the greetings and into the Traveler's Den, and slept for several hours. The next afternoon, he walked outside the clan to splash some water on his face in the cool bubbling brook. As he walked there he saw a dark shape crash land into some bamboo further away! He ran into the direction he thought and searched, smelled, and looked everywhere. Eventually, Hermes heard some groans and some bamboo move. He went to poke his head in when a similar-colored nose poked his at the same time.

After some shock from the female Pearlcatcher, he introduced himself and noticed she was hurt. He offered her a ride back to The Spectrum, and although she was hesitant she eventually got on his back, holding her forearm close. He took her immediately to the healer, Corbel, and they deemed she wasn't fit to travel for a few weeks. Showing her to the Traveler's Den, he took care of her as much as he could.

She was pretty prickly, and always insisted on going for walks around the shops when she was feeling a bit better. He was starting to feel for her, he could feel it, and he didn't mean to. Being a traveler, it was probably a bad idea. But he just couldn't help it. His warrior heart wanted to protect her! Over those few weeks with her, he grew big and strong, just like he wanted to be. His muscles got stronger, he got taller, and his mane grew in longer.

When Carmen's injury was getting better, he was afraid she would leave if he didn't say something. So he confessed his feelings for her and asked her to nest. Her, always being so stoic, actually agreed! He was thrilled and doted over her and their two eggs constantly, always on egg watch to see the first moments they would hatch!

But then, one day, she left without saying goodbye. His big warrior heart was shattering. Their eggs were nowhere near hatching yet, and he was alone! In a panic, Hermes searched high and low for her, he swear he could smell her scent, but found nothing. He asked the nursery for help, Opaline and Pascal gladly helped care for them until their hatching day.

And when they did hatch...they looked just like him in color, and were Pearlcatchers like Carmen. He shed a few tears, both happy and sad, and held the squeaky hatchlings close. Harvest and Meteion he would name them. He promised to keep them safe, and wherever Carmen was, he hoped she was happy.

TrueTerror || Charged Barrens || 11/12/2023

He couldn't stay within the hills and confines of the Singer's Brook any longer. Everywhere he turned, he saw her face. His children were big now, and no longer needed Hermes to watch over them. He made his leave away from the Windswept Plateau.

He headed east, across the sea to the sandstone cliffs of the lightning domain. The lightning dragons found him hiding from the harsh sun and took him in. Although the clan gladly accepted Hermes, it took a while for Hermes to accept the clan.

Hermes tried to leave his memories in the sands behind him, but they seemed to always rise back up to haunt him. He tried to talk things through with Yatalia, who seemed like the most comforting of the lightning dragons, but couldn't quite put his feelings into words. Instead, he buried them deep, expelling them through training with the strongest dragons of the clan.

He made good friends with Nerknerk, a tawny skydancer. Nerknerk was quiet, but wise for his years. He offered to help Hermes with his emotions. Together they sparred in the dunes, and with each strike Hermes let go of the sadness and the anger he'd been holding on to. Hermes felt good, invigorated with new energy.
