Biography

IceWarden uncurled from his ledge deep in the Windhover lair, and gazed up at the ceiling of the cavern. There, above him, stretched the great mural of constellations he had painted. But IceWarden hardly saw the line-drawn forms of the Lightweaver, the Tidecaller--he only had eyes for the gems that twinkled there in place of stars. Oh, those gems! He remembered their smooth surfaces, and how they had glinted so appealingly in his paws... IceWarden toyed with the spinel that dangled from his neck, and longed for the day when he could amass a sparkling hoard of his own.

IceWarden was hired as a painter--for he has much artistic skill, even if he doesn't value it--and never really left. Arrogant, cold, and exceedingly vain, IceWarden became enamored with Icemelt. She tolerated his advances, then slowly welcomed them. But Icemelt wasn't blind--she knew IceWarden cared for her pearl, and her hoard of arcane crystals, more than he cared for her.

The other dragons tolerated IceWarden, for Icemelt's sake, but nobody really liked him, and he doesn't get much of a say in clan affairs. Gwen tried to forget about him, most days. "When he feels like contributing something besides pretty drawings," she was heard to snort, "THEN I will judge him and assign him a ranking."

Pushed away by the rest of the clan, IceWarden eventually sought out a more welcoming crowd, and adorned his wings with a set of pearly bangles--a mark of the Windhovers' resident cult of dark dragons; the former and present Acolytes of Erebus. And in the following days, as IceWarden's shining pale feathers darkened to black and bioluminescent dots appeared on his underbelly, his allegiance to Erebus became amply clear.

Now, IceWarden's warped artistic genius only be seen by those who descend into the unlit labyrinth below the Windhover lair--the heart of Erebus' realm. Glowing colonies of bacteria sparkle on the damp walls, shaped into swirling spirals and ancient runes. In some rooms, the stone has been carved into hideous gargoyles with glowing ruby eyes, and gem-studded friezes depicting the return of The Shade cover the walls. But few dragons are willing to take the risk--and most are just glad to have IceWarden out of their lives.
