Headcanon:
  • Was still fairly young and inexperienced when he left home.
  • His adventuring days didn't last long. Early on, he was attacked by a critter that he was studying out in the mountainous wilderness. He survived, but remained on the brink of death for several days.
  • Passersby found him, and a group was organized to get him out and back to safety.
  • Hayabusa was a part of that group. He befriended Kruegar and kept track of his recovery afterwards.
  • The incident badly damaged Kruegar's limbs, and while it was determined that prostheses would help him manage everyday activities, he wouldn't be able to go adventuring or monster hunting again. This realization seriously depressed him for a while.
  • Couldn't figure out what he was supposed to do with his life after that. Hayabusa helped nudge him in a different direction, suggesting he could use his research and investigation skills to help field workers from afar.
  • Kruegar joined the clan shortly after that. He was still wary of working with supernatural stuff (since doing all that was what'd nearly gotten him killed), so he instead found work at Tree Den, the clan's Nature outpost.
  • Met Eve, one of the outpost guards, and eventually married her.
  • He greatly admires her strength and combat skills. She also helps him go through exercises to maintain his physical strength; it's common to see them warming up together in the mornings.
  • He curates the notes compiled by the outpost researchers. Mostly scientific stuff, but he has begun getting back into the family business of collecting info on the supernatural as well.
