Biography

Though his mother is long-departed for other realms, Proteus has happily taken up her role as head archivist for the Windhover clan. In his library, Proteus guards all the records of the clan's failed great project, the Rune Clock... as well as the lab notebooks detailing the clan's later work on "upgrading" the local wildlife.

Despite the clan's new focus, Proteus still clings to his old job of data correlation--once crucial to the functioning of the Rune clock, but now a pleasant hobby. As young Clayr slowly takes over librarian duties, Proteus has taken to wandering abroad, collecting information first-hand from clans around Sornieth. On the sweltering summer nights, when the Stormcatcher's tempest rages and howls over the mesa, Proteus curls up in the cool library with Urania, his mate, and pores over all they've collected.

They've already made some interesting discoveries––for example, that the shifting position of one particular constellation is strongly correlated with large clutch sizes among Nature dragons. Nobody has any idea why this is so––but experimentation, as Proteus is fond of pointing out, is not the job of a librarian.
