Biography

A fierce soul with a warm heart, Piteraq is the daughter of the Windhover clan's librarian, Proteus, and its astronomer, Urania. As soon as she was able to fly, she began taking trips with her mother up through the clouds to see the stars. But when Urania drifted ever higher, to where the atmosphere is thin and clear, Piteraq preferred to dance on the top edge of the clouds, where water vapor froze into ice, and where the Stormcatcher's clouds were still illuminated by flashes of silent lightning. She spent so much time that there that the image of distant planets, misty and dim through the vapor, permeated her scales and mane, leaving them sparking with captured starlight.

Now, as a grown dragon, Piteraq spends most of her time below ground, working as the Windhovers' Personality Engineer. Working closely with Vespertine, the clan's neurosurgeon, Piteraq works to design personalities and voices for the familiars that their clan "uplifts." Piteraq may not understand much about neuroanatomy, but she is an expert on psychology--the animals she works on are designed to be the perfect intelligent companions and servants to the dragons they bond with. Her celestial demeanor makes her alternately intimidating and ethereal, and many dragons leave her presence feeling unnaturally awestruck.

Piteraq is mated to Kaikoa, the wandering seafarer of the Windhovers. Every so often, when the clouds break over the sea, she darts down to find his boat bobbing there, waiting for her.
